Absolutely awesome.

The timing problem I was having with my previous gearing is now gone. It comes up nice and easy, and very predictable.

Also, because I'm on the 929, I still get like 75mph at about 7.5k revs... so perfect there too. I don't think I'll be missing the top end any time soon.

My stunting buddy and I are both learning how to clutch em up this way, and our goal is to learn idle... so all practicing will go towards that right now.

So there's my update. The gearing is rad... can't wait to practice again tomorrow.

so you're running 15/56?

Re: Dumping the clutch

correct-o-mundo.

Nice thing is I have an odd, and even sprocket... so my tooth / chain wear will be less.

Here's a nice site for you guys. Some great info!

Re: Dumping the clutch

So... I have a question... I'm not sure which way to practice...

For those of you riding idle: Do you clutch it to BP and catch idle using only engine braking? Or, do you catch the BP with the brake, and roll the throttle off then?

I'm down for advice.

Here's a bit of progress btw:

Re: Dumping the clutch

Personally, I snap it straight up to BP and catch it with the brake... i don't work my way back to BP.

Re: Dumping the clutch

I also found the bike is much more stable if you snap it straight to BP vs trying to work your way back to BP. If I snap it straight to BP I can usually dip straight into a circle within 10-15 ft from where I launched. But if I don't snap it straight to BP I takes me a bit longer to setup for a circle.

Re: Dumping the clutch

Ya clutch it STRAIGHT to blanace point and work the brake

but also work the throttle when needed, but work on being smooth on the brake so you don't need a lot of throttle

Re: Dumping the clutch

For a long time there I never realized it but I was ALWAYS on the rear brake subconsciously... so I literally had to tell myself to get off the brake 100%. After doing that the bike doesn't dip as much, so realllllllllly focus on your rear brake and using it when necessary but also to be off of it 100% when you are on idle.

So thats what im doing wrong. Im clutching it up and crapping my pants before it even get close and rolling off the throttle

Seriously thats some good info!!! Ill practice that. So its clutch straight to BP catch it with the brake then roll off the throttle and off the brake except little taps to keep it there!?!?!?!?!

EXACTLY!!! And trust me, you don't need much. And I'm assuming if you are still catching idle that means you are probably leaning back really far. Try to be a little more over the top of the bike. The more you lean back, the more brake you have to use which will bog the bike down... so try and stay on top of the bike instead of leaning off the back.

Woah, that's the opposite of what I thought I was supposed to be doing. I naturally kinda hug my tank bent arm, and thought that was wrong. So recently I have been working on straightening my arms and leaning back. Wrong way huh?

I still haven't got idle down... but I can imagine it's going to be like learning anything else wheelie related... takes a ton of concentration and ***** to learn... but once you get it, it becomes second nature.

Took me probably a week to find my back peg... but now I can't think of the last time I even gave it any thought... 2nd nature.

Idle will be the same way soon I hope if I can get the rocks to go straight to bp without smashing my brake so hard.

Keep working slowly, don't try and go for the homerun right now when base hits will do. Keep working on bringing it back to BP b/c you are still learning, but once you feel comfortable with catching the bike on the brake, try snapping the bike up a little quicker each time around.

Every stunter here at some point or another murdered the back brake when learning to snap it straight to BP, that's part of the learning curve. But before you know it, you'll know exactly how much to rev, how hard to dump the clutch, how much body english you have to throw into it, and how much brake you'll need to catch it.

Are you out riding today?

Re: Dumping the clutch

Went to the KBPI car show with sportmax and his girl. Messed around a little bit today but didn't put in a session. Did stoppies at DSF's spot for like half an hour... but was just me and my roomie... and he doesn't stunt, so called it early.

Got a crazy schedule this week... so not sure when the next session will be. Might hit the Golden spot mon, tue, or wed evening. Will be slammed from there on to the end of the month.

Gonna come show me and sportmax how it's done? =P

Well I feel bad for not giving you pointers that day when you wrecked... I sort of blame myself for not telling you to QUIT USING YOUR HB and learn rear brake control but you were doing pretty good so I didn't want to interrupt your flow.

I have a brembo 16x18, going to a hohey dual caliper now...

And I still have yet to use it lol.

Had the money a while back and figured I'd get it while I could afford it. As someone suggested here, I think I'm going to take the lever off until I have idle, and need it for off peg stuff. Might or might not be this season...

I'm concentrating on dead stop launches, catching idle, engine braking, and tapping rather than squishing my brake before I even bother trying to learn any other techniques. My reward for getting good at idle will be FIB. Slow and steady this time around. No skipping steps.

But at least my bike will be ready to go as I learn and advance.

In the mean time, I just keep around here to stay motivated, and practice as I can.

I think I owe you a beer or something lol.

Re: Dumping the clutch

Sorry I couldn't load the bike up into my truck, but it's just too lifted for me to even attempt to put a bike in there that isn't running. Besides, it took 3 of us to get that big *** bike into the back of your friends truck so there was no way I was going to be able to go anywhere. But at least you are healed up now!!

Hazmat got to leave with the biggest rocks today lol.

I never seem to get any of my good ones on video lol. Kinda where I'm at:

http://myspacetv.com/index.cfm?fusea...deoid=36905425

Sportmax is getting more comfortable with BP, and shutting it off less as he gets there. Same problem with as me though, never gets the best ones on video!

Re: Dumping the clutch

he keeps saying snap it up, catch brake, then let off throttle but really its snap it up, letting off throttle cause you turned your idle up right? Then to keep bike from going any further back you just tap brake, "TAP" dont smash the thing, you will only snap forward, its alot less brake then you think if you clutched it right, to start just put idle to like 4 gs and let almost all your air out of tire, then all you gotta worry bout is front to back instead of left to right cause you are almost on just rim. once you get it but pressure back to like 23-28 psi and slowly get your idle lower and lower as you gain brake control............nuff said
