Balance point on stand ups?

Hey I was attempting to practice stand ups today and the few times that I got it up to where I felt it was high I could ride it out for just a little bit but then I look down and the rpms were just about redline. When you get to the balance point do the rpms go down or what?? I was doing this by the way in first gear, should I shift or just set it down at that point. By the way it also felt like it was pulling me still so I doubt that I was even close to balance point but my buddy I was with told me that the front wheel seemed pretty high. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated. Bike is a gsxr 750.
thanks

Re: Balance point on stand ups?

I'm just getting to hit and miss BP standups. Sometimes I can float in and out of BP and ride them out a long ways and sometimes they won't stay still for me and I don't ride them out near as far. What I can tell you is that you shouldn't do them in 1st. It's way twitchier and harder to control. I do all my standups in 2nd. Smoother and easier to ride them out. It's kinda scary when you first start doing 2nd gear standups because the speed goes up way higher when you aren't at the BP. Just work slowly and don't try to overdo it. Get to where you can control the height of the front tire and work on bringing it up just a little more and a little more. I bounce them up or clutch them up to a point below BP and raise the front slowly with throttle to near BP. Sometimes I nail it up near BP with the bounce and they go forever but for now try to bring it up to a spot and hold it there. Then just add gas slowly and try to bring it up a little more and roll off. Keep doing that and you will eventually raise it up and roll off to keep it where it's at and realize you're not speeding up anymore Then you'll be stoked.

Yes when u get to bp your rpms are gonna drop cuz your speed will drop. Dont shift and use first gear, let it down before it gets close to redlining.

Also, in first gear, if you keep it at 20mph and clutch it you can get it up high and it won't be as twitchy.

No offense but isn't this the guy who just posted about not being able to get his front tire off the ground with a bounce+clutch? I'd keep flaming to yourself until you learn your own bike

hope the guy didn't flip his bike because of this... first gear is crazy to learn clutchin' in muchless when you don't know where BP is.. and it jumps up quick

Re: Balance point on stand ups?

problem is, you need to learn on a **** box, when u can hit bp on a **** box and ride it out for a decent amount of time, u hop on a new bike and that **** is easy... like 2 easy makes u kinda depressed..

Re: Balance point on stand ups?

I hit a couple of BP sitdowns last night and felt it just settle in. I've been hitting stand ups at BP for about a month or so now and it feels good. Getting a lot more comfortable with putting the bike up there and just cruzing

Re: Balance point on stand ups?

No I'm still around!! Still working on it in first though. It does shoot up quick in first and I think probably once or twice I may have hit BP but my lack of ability to use the rear brake scared the crap outta me because I thought I was going over and I ended up slamming it to the ground I have attempted second a couple of times but right now I'm just not comfortable with it because it seems like I'm gonna really have to give it a TON of gas to bring it up and it first I'm using like 1/3 to 1/2 throttle.
