Howzit fellas,
I went out last night for a little bit and was trying the standup thing again with no results. I was trying in second gear but I think I was too low in the rev range to lift it. I was about 5500 rpm when you guys do em are you higher in the powerband or am I still just being a wus?

Re: CBR 954rr Wheelie tips
It should get busy at 5.5k no problem. Are you clutching? If so just keep adding more throttle each time. It should lift easily with the clutch standing in 2nd. It comes up faster for me than the old power bounce method. But then I usually get pretty wild with the throttle and clutch since the first couple I try I wuss out and it makes me mad so I get after it hard because I'm pissed.
I've been bringing them up at lower and lower rpm's like 3k and below so it shouldn't be a problem at 5k. Just keep working at it.

On Edit:
but I got the vid digitized and will try to get it hosted tonight or tomorrow and you can look at the one decent stander I got on tape this last weekend. It aint nothing great but I seem to be off the game a little after the crash. The new sprockets are on and the new chain is going on tomorrow and then I can ride again :YEAH I'm trying to get next week off for vacation and intend to spend the whole week riding like 8 hrs a day
If I'm not getting consistent BP by the end of that (or thrown in jail for reckless
) I'm gonna be pissed.
Re: CBR 954rr Wheelie tips
I tried hosting my video on "uponone" but they seem to be not working. The last video I saw was from July 30. No one has posted one since then?? Maybe the joint is on the fritz
Tried my brother's site too and that didn't work. Anyone know of any good free web hosting places?
I got the new chain on today. Put the sprockets on the other day but didn't want to ride with a junk chain and new sprockets. Unfortunately I haven't gotten more than 4 hours sleep for the last 4 days so I'm gonna rack back out before work tonight. I did get a couple good 2nd gear clutch up's today. First one out of the box was rockin' :YEAH Hit BP twice where I was slowing a little for a second or two. The second one I wussed out and didn't get after it enough. (I had tried one 1st gear in between so that always throws me off. I never give it enough gas when I go back to the 2nd gear because 1st comes up so fast) Then I hit another great 2nd gear that I had to let down finally because I was going off the other side of the road
I gotta learn to steeer these things and I'll be golden

Re: CBR 954rr Wheelie tips
Fellas, I am finally happy to say that I have found that allusive BP on the 954 today. I hadn't riden since last weekend and the weather here was great today. I got the wife to come out and video today. Everything was set.
I decided, for the first time, to put my left foot on the passenger peg. As stated by someone else previously in this thread, that made all the difference.
I just kept going at it. I have a problem of pulling my right arm in and the left arm is fighting to keep the front tire straight. I started to get real tired from this self tug-o-war.
I watched the video while I was still out there, and tried some more. I had a freak thing happen, I was up on it and the front came flying down. I didn't knock it out of gear, and I am pretty sure that I didn't hit the rear brake. So that spooked me a little.
I decided to watch the video one last time, then I figured I had a couple more in me, and the one right after I watched the video just set it off. I hit BP, and just kept getting them one after the other after the other. Only problem was that I was pretty tired by this point. But you can be sure that I will go out tomorrow.
This pic isn't BP, but it's one of the clearer ones I could find because I was yanking this out of the video.

im gonna go out some more tomorrow and try and get footage, im actually getting teh cluth part right, which is progress, just gotta keep it up, i was psyched!
ive been trying mine sitting down, just cause it seems more ocmfortable, i havent even tried with foot on rear peg, but i will tomorrow!! :YEAH
edit: alomst forgot, what REALLY REALLY psyches me the most is im staring at liek 5mph, and getting it to come right up and not speed up
SLOWER=BETTER&COOLER wheelie

Great pics Dax...thanks for sharing. Is that a MIG high mount your running?
Keep up the progress...coming along nicely.
Re: CBR 954rr Wheelie tips
I wish I could hit BP consistently without being jerky and slamming the front down full force at 11:00, I can't afford to break fork seals or I'd be practicing wheelies a lot more.

Re: CBR 954rr Wheelie tips
Update: I went out on Sunday and started off kind of slow compared to Saturday, but by the end of the day I was rocking in and out of BP. I'm still a little sketched to hang out in BP, but I am feeling more comfortable with it.
Next I need to learn to clutch it up so I can slow things down. Right now I usually don't make it to BP until somewhere near 60 mph.

Re: CBR 954rr Wheelie tips
yo dax, i was power wheeleing too, and when i would clutch it would just bog, it took me only a little while to learn the right point, the way i see it its easier to rock teh wheely at liek 15 mph, and looks better in my honest opinion, PLUS if you fall it WILL DEFINITELY hurt less and do less damage to the bike, im gonna go out later, i start at like 5 mph, vroom vrrom vrrom then vroooo--ooooooom and up she goes and only gain like another 7-8 mph which is great in my book, gonna try and get some footage and throw it up on my website :YEAH
Re: CBR 954rr Wheelie tips
I've been getting in and out of BP and occasionally keeping it there but can't keep going because I usually run out of space because I can't steer them. A lot of 2nd gear wheelies but I'm getting 1st close to BP when I get a good one. I clutch 1st up at about 20 and raise it up to BP or close with throttle from where it clutches up to. On a good one it comes up near BP off the clutch and I can ride them for a long ways for 1st gear.
I didn't have a good day yesterday though. I couldn't seem to get the clutchin' right. I bring everything up with the clutch now since I feel I have to learn that to progress to where I want to be. Problem is I had a couple not come up so I got really aggressive with the clutch and had one come up past BP and had to chop the throttle completely and still didn't get the back brake in time to help. It came down from the compression but gave me a little scare. After that the day was just screwed. I kept clutching them up weak and bringing them up most of the way under power and I was using so much power (because the clutching wasn't getting them over the hump) that when it got over the hump at WOT it would snap the rest of the way up FAST and I was having to time the roll off perfect to stop it at BP and not go beyond and have to shut off completely for fear of looping.
Very inconsistent day for me. The day before I thought I had it pretty much on lock but not now. I got some good ones but it was really hit or miss. 1 good one, 2 bad ones, 2 good ones, 1 bad one kinda crap.
Oh well more practice I guess.
Dax,
you still in first or are we talking 2nd gear? 60 in first is pretty fast and you definately need to clutch it up. All it takes in first is a little dip and it'll pop up quick to where you want it. I'm having better luck with 1st than 2nd now and I've only been doing 1st for 2 days (standing, clutching). It's just got me frustrated (2nd gear). I just couldn't get consistent yesterday and I'm kinda feeling
I guess I should quit whining though. It's like every day I don't progress or I regress some like yesterday I start to get discouraged. Those days I should just bag it and go home but I always try to work through it but as I'm getting to BP it's not something I can afford to make mistakes with like I could when they were lower so I gotta start settling down before I end up hurt.

Re: CBR 954rr Wheelie tips
Sup Fellas,
I went out on Friday night for about 3 hours with absolutly nothing to show for it, no success at ALL. Very frustrating. I was trying everything i possibly could bouncing (looked like an idiot)!! 1st gear clutch ups (nada) 2nd gear clutch ups (zip) stand ups,,,all types (nathan). I went home and played vice city until I forgot about the crappy night.
Saturday Night a buddy of mine and myself went out. He was tearing it up all night. he's only had his ride for 4k miles I've had mine for 18000 now. It was upsetting. However, at least I was able to get the front tire to leave the fuggin ground this time. Once was so scary I hampered my progress for the rest of the night I decided to try a 1st gear bounce and for the first time ever it FLEW up about shot me off the damn thing. So, my brown star was fairly puckered for the rest of the night. I did manage to at least end the night on a good note, nothing near the bp but I lifted it in second with the clutch. So, happy enough for me to be ok for the night.
I am getting seriously pissed off, which is dangerous because we all know the frustration point, didn't even ride to work today, figured I'd chill and get my mind off it for a day.
To top things off I couldn't do any stoppies either all weekend because I had to change my brake pads out on Saturday. So, untill I get em scrubbed in I won't be able to show the skills. I did do a christ on friday but to me it's kinda boring. And really,, I don't like doing them (part of my philosophy, stunt for ultimate control) I was really tempted to at least do some burnouts but I really need this metzler to last me for another month.
At least I am losing the fear of looping (unfortunatly I am gaining the fear of never getting this down, I don't know one single person that took this long to learn a frickin wheelie, I got everthing else down. This sucks
Don't know what to do with the frickin monos
