CBR 954rr Wheelie tips
Re: CBR 954rr Wheelie tips
Thanks for the tips bladerunner. I can now get it up in second pretty consistently, but I'm getting alot of wheel spin. As in when i drop the clutch the rear tire breaks loose. Is this pretty normal? maybe my tires suck *****? I'm running mich pilot sports. Anyway I just wanted to reply and say thanks alot for the help.

You gotta hang way the *** off the side to straighten that **** out. I've been stumped by the steering issue for a month or so and finally got it a little. It don't work every time but I can usually keep them in the lane if there's not too much crown on the road.
wildkarrde,
If you get one welcome to the club
Post up here and tell us what you think. Re: CBR 954rr Wheelie tips

I used to sit with the "boys" up close to the tank til I chopped the throttle and slammed the front end down. Once you wrap them around the tank once or twice...you too will sit back a bit farther. Try leaning back a bit too with your upper torso...I see alot of guys leaned out over the tank when they are doing sit downs. That will just make the front end wanna drop...good luck.
I'll be out at the spot all day practicing...gotta love a day off like that! Later---bladerunner Re: CBR 954rr Wheelie tips
I'm thinking the wheel spin has alot to do with the weather? it seems below about 65 degrees is when i get wheel spin, cold roads i guess.
next time i go out I'm gonna have to try and sit back further, see what happens.

Welcome to the Post WildK,
Hey Pa1n!!
I know a ton of guys who really like the Pilots, it's all preferance. However, I used to have the same exact problem with my pillots. It would take me forever to warm them up and I used to break em loose all the time, I have a feeling you ride like I do, a lot of inner city and commute type riding. The pilots seem to do better than most tires when they are hot but getting them hot and keeping them hot is hard to do unless your out for a while without stopping. I know a couple guys who refuse to run anything else but personally I don't care for them much since I do tend to do a lot of stop and go riding and I live in Colorado so you can never count on steady weather.
I have had excellent results with Bridgestone BT012s which I think are now the BT014s. And my absolute new fav is the Metzler M-4 Sportec. You won't ever break loose again they get warm almost instantly and stay warm. Just my
For now you might try letting some air out of the rear, I tried and they were a little better.
I made a little more progress this weekend, On Friday Night I was watching FTP3 for the 40th time and I was really trying to pay attention to posture, So the next day I went out and put my arms really straight, back really straight, head up and kept my body as still as possible and started working the 1st gear clutch ups,,results were awesome and came along fast. went out on Sunday fur about an hour (didn't wanna push it with the Mrs.) made some more progress, I noticed that they got a hell of a lot more predictable than ever. Didn't really try much this morning on the way here(coffee hadn't kicked in yet). I'll be back at it this afternoon.
Break pads are completely scrubbed in again so I'm back at my endos too!! ahhhh ya

El Nino,
if you do that monster rear, lemme know what it's like I keep debating it myself. But I just did a complete final drive setup about 4000 miles ago so I'll prolly wait to do anything else.

i wanna do the big rear but not something big enuff to chew the swingarm away. thinking like +10 to +12 and i always have teh option of going down in teh front -1. im just confused on which chain to buy, dunno that technical ****
now on tire talk.... my bike came with a michelin rear and bridgestone front. i figure for slow wheelies and stuff teh tire cant make a HUGE diff.... can it?
i thought being real picky in tires was for kneedraggers. none the less i think all teh big brands are probably 'decent" michelin, bridgestone, pirelli, metzeler etc
Re: CBR 954rr Wheelie tips
El nino,
Chains are always a pain in the ****. Personally I like the DID Chains but Im also pretty happy with the Regina I'm running right now. regina has a higher tinsel strenght but the rivets are really old school so riveting it on can be troublesome, a lot of shops don't even have the right tool. I broke my chain rivet tool putting the damn thing on. So, a little advice is to find a chain that has more up to date rivets. As far as links go, just ask the shop, tell em what size sprockets you want to run and they'll get the apropriot chain. When you chainge<---get it,,,the front sprocket, it may be really really hard to get off, on mine I had to heat the bolt with a torch (this destoys the old chain O-rings) for about 2 min. then use an impact gun to get the bolt loose, also replace that bolt it's like 4 bucks or something but it endures a ton of abuse. The rear is easy. I'm always in the market for a new chain tool so if you find a good one let me know.
On the tire question, for stunting you won't have any probs with the set up you have right now, matching tred patterns are for better handeling at speed. Right now I have a Bridgestone BTO-10 on the front (not too swift, not as bad as a Dunlop though) and a Metzler M-4 on the back and I don't have any handeling complaints at least none that are caused by two different tires.
The only things I always ask about with tires is tred life in the rear and stickyness up front. The BTO-10s are so so, the best one I ever ran in front was a Bridgestone BTO-12ss that was the bomb. mmmmm super good endos.

Re: CBR 954rr Wheelie tips
Update: I went out Saturday and the weather here was amazing. I had some really good runs. I was all over the BP, and learning how to steer. A couple of them I could have gone for a while but my forarms were killing me. I need to start working out again.
I went out again today after work and was having a difficult time finding the BP again. Then I had one really good one, and the rest of them fell right into place.
Here are a couple of pictures from Saturday.

Sweet *** pics Dax! I love the one with you looking over at the camera :YEAH I think it looks
when you're riding along at or near BP and just look over at the people you're passing like it aint no thing
I gotta get a dig camera
On edit: I got an hour before I gotta leave for work. I'm going riding now

Re: CBR 954rr Wheelie tips
Thanks guys, I just got back from practicing today, and it felt pretty good.
If I could just lean back a little bit further and straighten out the arms just a bit, I think I will be set.
About the pictures, luckily my wife (Spracky on SL) completely supports me in my need to ride/stunt. She does all of my video taping, and usually comes out on the weekends to catch me on tape. It is the best tool at getting better. Everytime I go out with her taping I get better and better because I will take small breaks and watch the video, and realize that I still have room to get the front tire higher.
Last weekend when she was taping, I really started feeling comfortable, so I kept looking over at her.
Thanks again, guys!

Re: CBR 954rr Wheelie tips
well i went out yesterday and gonna go out in a little while. i started trying 1st gear stand ups, feels easier positioning but damm i've come to teh conclusion that i need to gear the bike cause i start at liek 4mph, bring it up and off it goes to 25-35mph in a second, doesnt feel good to me, i wanan go as slow as possible. but i was getting em up, i gotta get out and get some vids too and throw them up on my website
Re: CBR 954rr Wheelie tips
Has the site been down for a couple days or is it just my end? I have been able to go to every other site I visit every day but not SL for like 2 days?
Anyway the progress is good. I can nail the clutch like it's nothing now. I don't ever have one that doesn't come up like I used to. I'm still not getting the BP unless I'm going up a little hill though. I can usually ride them out just about as long as there's straight road but occasionally on the freeway I run out of revs.
The steering has gone bad too. I think I'm going south a little on that. I can still turn right ok but can't seem to make them go left very consistently.
Overall I'm happy with my progress because the clutching is what I wanted to get dialed next. Now I have to get the steering a little better so I can ride them out long enough to get the BP dialed.
