They just check safety **** here. No emissions except in southern maine and they only check the computer for fault codes. No actual sniffer. Part of the safety **** though, is any body holes that are structural or are open to the inside of the vehicle. Rocker panels are structural.

It doesn't make the state any money here (besides licensing fees). It just makes the garages money. The state is not involved in inspections except to license regular garages.

It's really a shitty setup because some garages will fail cars that they know the owner will pay them to do the work. It doesn't matter if the car really needed it or not. The good thing is you can find garages that will pass almost anything.

hmm ok

down here its rough. not only do they use a sniffer, but it has to be done on a dyno now too. AND, theres a camera that records the whole process and sends the vid to the state.

You can beat the dyno by saying you have full time 4wd but generally if you cant pass emissions with a load on the motor you cant pass it without anyway.

Same here.

Before they used dynos, almost every shop was state certified for inspections. So it was easy to find someone to take a bribe. Now only shops that can afford a dyno and have space for one are certified. I dont know anybody anymore to hook it up, although i no longer have a tuck that will never pass.
My old dodge and my dads camaro used to require bribes every year.

Sounds like a diesel with a chip is perfect for that situation. Are diesel engines exempt from testing?

It hasn't even been talked about in the state. Having inspections would not pass right now because there are so many people who have old cars that wouldn't pass a safety inspection. You can't take away the primary mode of transportation for 25-30% of the population of the state.

Depends on weight. It is like $25 or $35 for a motorcycle, and it is like $220 for my truck.

They can, and they will eventually. Half the people I know have uninspected vehicles. All 3 of mine are. If you never get pulled over, its not a big deal, until you go through a dwi checkpoint :banhgead
