This is a great thread and what stunt life started out like. I have heard the same as every one else who has been around for a while. I am referring to this topic. HHuuummmmm Not sure what to say if anything, except for not many people can even begin to understand the sacrifices a truly dedicated pro make in "this sport". There isn't a lot of money in this sport yet, that's no secret.

There is always the wasters’ version of what a pro is but I feel there is so much more to it than that. This is a very hard topic to define for me because I get the simple definition of pro crossed with the definition of originators. There are so many pro's out there now that haven't lost wives, been in dept. for years, struggled to invent and name there inventions, traveled so much they feel like gypsies. I'm not saying it's all bad or even that these things are necessities. Just that there are different levels of everything and it's some times hard to give a simple answer.

One of the wisest things I heard on here is that being a pro is a frame of mined so to speak. A pro is considerate to others feelings, Gracious when victorious, and exhibits the kind of humility Michael Jordan would to me if I where to challenge him to a basket ball game.

Some times I feel Thew said it best. “Just because you can come in the room and hit the switch and the light comes on doesn't make you Thomas Addison." You can be the best rider in the world but if your an ******* to your friends, fans, or supporter's. You're not a pro in my book!! On the same hand I have seen people that ride so so. That I would consider to be pro's. Again just my .

I know some of this post has a strange tone to it but like I said in the beginning this is truly a difficult question, and made at least my self and the others that have posted here sit back and think for a moment.

2005 will distinguish the pros from the amateurs...a national series with rankings...all we have to do as riders is hone our skills, and then SHOW UP AND COMPETE!!!

when this series has been finalized (we are setting up the venues, etc as we sit here and discuss this), it will ONCE AGAIN be up to the riders to come out and support the sport.

there will no excuses for not showing up because there will be an east, central, and west coast series all tied into the national series....everyone wil have something in their area for the most part...

the tv portion of this (imho) will come to fruition once we have established ourselves as a legitimate sport with consistent rules and organization...until then, we will never go anywhere (just take a look at 2004 in review)...

and back to the original topic: a pro is much more than whether you make $$, are a good rider, etc...it is an attitude and not to be gay, but a 'way of life' (funny i use that phrase in this post!)...

Correct... as long as the "MULITIA" works with the promoter, it all works out. The promoter will help develop the characters and the promotion, and it can be a mutually beneficial relationship. But loose cannons need to be avoided, riders who show up to comps and shows and want to be the rebel, without having a relationship with the promoter. In the end... I agree.

all this talk about pros and ametures, i think at this point in time there is almost no telling whos who with a few exceptions of course. this is my 2 cents i think riders should be judged like figure skating and gymnastics. there would obviously be a specified time in which one would compete but you would have to hand in your exact run to the judges before the comp. and they would judge you on your run to a T like in figure skating and gymanastics ,then the correct pioints can be given on a 1-10 scale rangin from like 1-1.1-2-2.1 or more for areas like style, completion of tricks, originality in a run, and so on and then people can finally start to be judged properly. also there HAS to be the same judges or at least the same skill level for riding in every judge so it is nothing except fair at all times. so hire 15 top riders, split them up into regions and have 3-4 or 5 for each region ya feel me. and always have them judge ,give them a nice salary and whatever else has to be taken care of. well this **** has just been and idea me and teach and his girlfriend have been throwing around in talks whenever we get together. but remember its just my 2 cents but if anyone with some real pull like rainman wants to talk more about this idea about a new judging criteria hit me up

Actually we may also have a 50cc supermoto event along with the FMX & MotoFreestyle (Street) show at the Reliant Center, Houston TX, January 22... still to be determined.
