Re: My Street Legal Stunter

Just added a third bike to the stable... 125cc Lifan, twin spar frame, 12" wheels, FastAce Suspension, 16/40 gearing and LED street legal lighting. Still need to tune it but it's a blast on the streets. I'm not sure what it tops out at yet, but just riding around yesterday I went 53mph according to the GPS.

Wiring wasn't bad, just a little time consuming with soldering all points. If I think about it when I get home, I'll post a schematic I drew up before I started it all. I actually re-used it when i wired up the minimoto 125cc.

Yep everything had LEDs from blinkers to headlights to brake lights. There is no need to make your own LED brake light like I did, I just wanted something that fit under the tail. As you can see on the minimoto I bought that one, looks MUCH nicer and even had a plate bracket on it too. For the flashers, I used this:

http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-b...LFS-1-PIN.html

Works perfect for almost zero current draw of them. You just hook one side up to positive and the other side to the input side of the signal switch. the output of the switch goes to left or right blinkers. For the brake light, I just got a scooter brake lever. There are tons of options on how to do this, I chose to use my rear hand brake lever to activate the brake light. I wish now I'd used the front brake lever since that's where most of the stopping power is but I had no clue I'd ride the bike this much on the road. I actually have a front brake lever, just need to swap it out. I also have a foot brake switch which I never installed, got it from bajadesigns. I also got my horn from Bajadesigns too.

Hope that helps some!

For some reason I'm have issues exporting my schematic from CAD so I printed it out and scanned it in. Hope it helps.

Re: My Street Legal Stunter

How much did the complete street legal project cost ya? (Including DMV fees)

Still working on research to find out about legalities on getting this done here in Florida.

Did your DMV check the vin numbers and everything?

Re: My Street Legal Stunter

Is there an updated stator for the 50 that would handle the extra electrical draw? I know LED's are wicked low on consumption but wanted to ask anyway.

Re: My Street Legal Stunter

There is, but I'm not sure which one. I just did the battery thing and works good, it'll last all week without recharging... but would be nice to just let the stator do the charging.

Busy installing rear pegs, hb, hb/pedal brake arm, front peg mount bar, front pegs with sliders... going to be up for a while.

Front axle was dry as a bone. Worried about previous owner maintinence now. Fortunately I have some grease.

Nope, no problems there. No need it for a bike under 49cc per LA law

Re: My Street Legal Stunter

I plan on doing making my 50 street legal beginning of next year. Very easy here in Texas. I will be re-winding the stator rather than using a battery or buying an expensive aftermarket unit. Also, here we don't have to install turn signals because the bike didn't come from the manufacturer with turn signals. We just need a headlight, tail light, brake switch for the brake/ tail light, light for the license plate and a honking bicycle horn from walmart to pass inspection basically. Then we take the title to the DMV and get it submitted for on-road use then mount up the plate. All can be done for under $200 easy.
