Stand-ups straightened out!
Alright, a while back I posted about how my stand-ups were drifting to the right. Well I finally found a way out of that!
I was out on a mini-session this weekend and decided to try something different. Well I brought up this wheelie and just looked FAR ahead in front of me. I remember this from the MSF class, look where you want to go.
It worked!
I was actually maintaining centerline distance in the lane I was in and riding it out relatively nicely.
After I thought about it, I realized that I was originally concentrating on shifting my weight on the pegs in order to "steer" myself in the right direction.
By looking far ahead and concentrating on how high the bike was I manged to keep going in a straight line.
Make sense? It worked for me... on to more practicing.

i steer standups by crossing up the bars the oppsosite way that i want to go,, so if i wanna change lanes to the left, i cross my bars up to the right and than pull on the right clip on as i lean left and put weight on the left foot peg and it turns fast.. I dont know if thats what everyone else does but it works for me..

I'm really careful about putting them exactly where they need to be before I set it down. gotta stay right ith the universe when you're going 90 on one wheel.

i think tankslappers have more to do with what kind of bike u ride rather than how straight your wheels are, because i set my bike down on a 3rd gear wheelie with the bars pretty crooked and the bike slapped 2 times from side to side and it instantly recovered, were as my buddy, rides an rc51 and even if his wheels are perfectly straight he gets into bad speed wobbles. Infact he ate **** on a 4th gear wheelie right infront of me, he hit the ditch and ive never seen a bike so messed up in my life,,, that thing flipped like 20 times, and now he has a gsxr 1000 and no speed wobbles..

o and the reason i cross the bars isnt for gyroscopic effect or anything, its cuz i only weigh 160 pounds so i use the bar as leverage to pull the bike over as i put my weight into it as well... All im sayin is it works for me, give it a try, just set it down straight.
all you have to do to steer your stand ups is move your hips to the side you want to go. You can even take turns like that, take a look at the Daces videos those guys can take some mean turns and you can see that all they do is shift their weight by throwing their to the side the more you stick your butt out to the side the more the bike turns, it works great for me.
