1st gear standups???
yup I clutch em from like 1mph, just takes pratice and familarity with balance point..
I've always done standups, I suck at sitdowns I go all over the place (right/left).. but you just gotta get used to that 'falling back' feeling and knowing when is too far back
I'm just doing tank wheelies, and you REALLY get that falling back feeling, just gotta remember to keep calm and not panic thats when sh*t hits the fan

I'm jealous, I know that's what mine are supposed to look like, but I never quite get leaned back that much. I'll bet you can roll that biotch for miles like that.
How far you rode one of those standups?
I can ride em for quite a while, or as long as my arms will let me !
I'm working on finding a more comfortable position where I use my arms much less so I can roll em for miles..
right now the longest road I have is ~1mi. so I havent gone much further and their WAY to slow to pull on the freeway (~25mph)

Bler, how did you go about practicing that? Did you just keep dumping the clutch and giving more and more gas till you got higher and higher?
At that speed do you need to bounce or is it just clutch and prepare for lift off? That look real fun!

yup pretty much, just kept clutching it till you can get it up higher and higher.... now I can literally 'throw it up' to the balance point at rolling speed
it's all about letting OFF the throttle when clutching.. you rev it up high, clutch, the bike comes up, and then you let off to a steady throttle to ride it out to clutch up wheelies from a slow roll

damn, my friend just looped his minty 929 at 30mph.. i havent heard the details yet.
it seems the balance point all about associating the "too far back feeling" with "pushing the rear brake". is that pretty accurate? some times i panic and forget what the f*ck im doing up there. I wish i was at home watching jeopardy.

sorry about your friend, hope he's ok..
well for me, it's... (going from balance point BACK to almost looping)
balance point, past the balance point, roll off throttle, rear brake..
so I'll use engine braking once past the balance point to slow the wheelie down, and then if it's even further back and past the point where the throttle will not bring it back up i use brake.. so the rear brake is in case I put it too far back (and I'm sure I'll be using it more when I do 12's and get a bar)... BUT everyone has their own style, some use rear brake much more then others..
I'd say its more about being comfortable with that 'too far back' feeling (witch is probably the balance point, unless you actually are reducing speed) and knowing how much further back you CAN go.. witch really just comes with pratice
so if Im going too far back, I'll let off the throttle and if that doesnt do it, give the rear brake a little tap.. it's also about being smooth and in controll... yah, its easy to pull it up, panic and then get choppy on throttle or just let it off, just pratice pratice pratice..

you da man,
you make it seem easy.. i just found a sweet stunt spot here in Harrisonburg... i think ill try some slow stuff on the CBR
The XR100 is the greatest bike in the history of the world. its the best way to learn rear brake control and stuff..It wont balance left to right unless your at the BP.. still cant do standups on it..

haha yah, well it's not too hard once you get over the initial discomfort(feeling like your gonna loop), just make sure and remember.. SMOOTH THROTTLE inputs, espically when clutching in first..
good luck !
lemme know if you have anymore Q's and I'll do my best to answer

Hey, Bler, my problem is that when I clutch the bike feels like it's taking off from underneath me. Pretty scary actually. The front wheel doesn't really lift, the bike just takes off like a *****. So how should I be prepared for this? Body position?
yah, body position.. you WANT the bike to come up, right ? so lean back and pull back on the bars (yes I know it will come up REALLY fast and feel pretty damn scary).. but first gear clutch wheelies should come up just fine with the power and little body position (leaning back)..
there have been a couple times where I used my body too much, and brought it back too far too fast, so body position can play a big role...
but it could also have to do with your clutching it (if you are clutching).. you want to let it out quick but smooth (yah i know kinda hard to explain....) but if you dump it too quick it'll just lurch, and if you slip it too slow you'll just spin the rear tire..
if it is a problem with clutching, you may try praticing clutching it sitting down cause it's a little easier praticing from sitting position and just get used to letting the clutch out to get the front wheel off the ground and then progress from there to get it higher and standup
..
good luck and be safe !

i clutch up first gears without pulling on the bars, i bring it past the bp quick w/ rear brake at 15 mph and slow it down to 5-10. when i go past the bp i put a lot more pressure on the rear brake but i give more throttle at the same time.
You throttle and brake at the same time Duffman? Sounds technical. Gonna go riding tomorrow. Time to look like a dumbass again in front of everyone. One of these days I'll pull it off and be the cool kid on the block.

I'd be much better off rollin em at 25. That looks way more
then flying by going 80. The idea of clutchin up while going 25, standing, kind of freaks me a bit, I just gotta go practice that and get that on lock.
I finally have my sit downs on lock but clutching these standup are killing me. Are you standing all the way up when you clutch it. Because on my 600RR I feel really awkward trying to use the clutch while standing and rolling about 25mph. Then the tires spins, or don't give it enough trottle because I know its going to come up really fast. This about the point I get pissed and power the bitch up. Then once i'm going I find myself almost climbing on the gas tank with my body way out over the front of the bike. It might look cool i don't know but I can only keep it up like that until I run out of gear.
Where is you body at when you clutch it up?

Hmm....
Try putting your left foot on your passanger Peg, and cover the back brake with your right.
I treid this a couple times the other day and it felt a HELL of alot nicer than just standing and trying to either a) power it up or ) clutch it with both feet on the pegs.
Putting your foot back itll seem like your standing more straight up, which will feel more comfortable.
I havwent really gotten slow first clutch ups yet..but i can get it right up...just learning the brake control now...
All i do is stand up Get my feet reADY, roll going like 5mph, slip/give gas/let out, like simutanuously(sp?) and up she comes...fromt here is SMOOTH throttle input esp since your in 1st...and brake control if you wanna go rerally slow...which im still learning...
Can anyone explain the braking...should i apply brake as its coming up? or just when it is up? i dont have a 12 bar...so maybe i hsould get one of those before really attempting...dont wanna **** up my tailsection..

12 bars r an ify situation. If can balance straight then their good but if you come back on them at the slightest angle they can catch and throw you for a loop. Im pretty poor but I know I'd rather by new tails then pay for a hospital bill just for a small miscalculation.
