F4 Clutch problem
F4 Clutch problem
Setup:
Easy pull lever
+4 inch motion pro cable
barnett clutch kit(dont buy one if your thinkin about it)
Actuator arm is stock havent extended it
Problem:
I cant pull the lever in at all. Its like the **** is frozen. It has been getting harder as ive rode it more and cannot find a reason.
There is no resistance (normal amount) in the lever at the bar nor is there any within the cable. They are both smooth ect.
What i've tryed:
Pulled the cable straight off the bike to see if it was a kink. No dice
Ripped the clutch cover off to see if anything was really fucked up or frozen together.-Nothing, fibers were a little slim but nothing visually wrong., Put it back together still f'd up.
So does anyone have any ideas on the problem...Im about to go out and but new plates, fibers, springs, and the actuator arm bearing if you have no ideas
So sorry about the long thread but i thought id tell you what ive done so you dont waste your time.
Any help would be appreciated

Re: F4 Clutch problem
i have all that stuff your looking for or want to buy if interested.
is the actual arm installed right?
when you pulled the cover off and pulled all the fibers and steels was the basket moving freely?
im thinking it might be the springs
all i can think of right now need my morning coffee if i think of anything else ill post up.

Re: F4 Clutch problem
the inner basket which holds the plates spun freely amd the arm is installed right...i spun it as i pushed the cover on and its feels like it latches onto the lifter piece
I may be interested ill let you know

Re: F4 Clutch problem
hey broski...
not sure wat the problem could be but just fyi
1. the lifer piece has to have about a half inch of play in-n-out
2. you have to soak the plates in oil before installing (at least an hour, making sure both sides get lubed)
3. when putting the cover on, make sure the lefter arm is turned to the left. then straighten it out as you put the cover on.
hmmm, lets see...what else
4. the inner basket (da 1 that holts the steels), is not supposed to have ANY play. tho it should still work if it has play.
5. "all i can think of right now need my morning coffee if i think of anything else ill post up." TIME TWO

The plates soaked for 24 hours last year and everything was solid up untill recently. The inner basket rotates free but doesnt wiggle.
I did all that and nothing works
THanks tho
Re: F4 Clutch problem

haha i kid
so i'm confused...what exactly did you do before it stopped working?
you rode it for a while, then it happened?
you didn't ride it for a while, then it happened?
it happened during a wheelie...?
when? or when did you notice it?
just thought of this, the spring on the actuator arm isn't stuck, is it?

p.s. I don't think it's the plates, and I don't think buying a new set of parts will necessarily fix the problem.
Re: F4 Clutch problem
When you put the clutch cover back on, you need to make sure the acutuator arm latches on to the pin in the center of the hub. I usually rotate the arm to the right, put the cover on, then rotate to the left or at least wiggle until i know it's latched on.

I ordered a new pressure plate and bearing as well as oem sprngs cause i wanted oem springs haha and the bearing was loose as **** and the book said it shouldnt be loose.
O and spring is how its supposed to be
Yea did that, Thanks tho
Re: F4 Clutch problem
Ok ive spent some serious time with F4i clutches lately.
You said the bearing was loose, do you mean the bearing inside the pressure plate that the clutch pin slides into?

Re: F4 Clutch problem
Since this happend progressively we can rule out an incorrect install, so...
1. The clutch center has 5 pins that the springs slide over. Ive seen some F4i clutch centers with pretty deep grooves worn in from the springs, if the springs were binding in these grooves it would stop the clutch pin from pulling the pressure plate out.

Re: F4 Clutch problem
how many miles are on this motor? And how many clutches has it been through?
Typically your basket should last 30k+ without issues, it'll get slight groves, but shouldn't be anything to stop the clutch from working all together.
When you have the fibers back out, take a detailed pic of the clutch basket, the slots where the fibers hook into

Ok will do, He was talking about the pressure plate. The basket its good, and there are almost 20k on the motor
