How many miles on the motor? It sounds like you have a worn out motor. When you get low compression readings off of a cold motor, then somewhat normal readings after it warms up, that could mean that your rings are worn. As the motor warms up, all the metal parts in the motor slightly expand. As your rings are expanding, they are closing the gap between themselves and the cylinder wall, thus increasing compression.

Re: Hard cold starting

yes, needs valve adjust, after so many miles the valve start to seat in the head taking out clearance to the cam, theres probably no clearance untill the metals wrm up and expand. Get the valve adjust. very typical symptom for valve adjust.
