'01 GSX-R 1000 Starting problems
I recently got a hold of a '01 GSXR 1000.. I used to ride the bike a few years back and it was chill.. then my buddy 'went away' for a while and the bike sat. Now, 3+ years later, he needed money and sold it to me for $1,200. It has 20K miles on it and clean title.
So.. when I got it, obviously I had to do some clean up. New battery, then I found the rectifier was fried.. Spark plugs, oil, air filter.. the works.
I never pulled the fuel pump because I was getting clean fuel to the rail, but I DID pull the FI's off and clean them throughly. Spark plugs look like they have a strong arch, also.
Well, IF.. I can get the bike started it runs great! Strong, no lag in throttle or loss of power. If I run it every day, she starts pretty easy.. but when I let the bike sit for a few days starting becomes a problem.
The motor will crank over alllllll day, but I'm hardly getting a fire. EVENTUALLY, it will fire but by then usually my battery is too weak to continue to turn the motor.
What the hell changes when the bike is sitting for a few days? Any suggested test?
