F4i smoking out exhaust after riding idle
F4i smoking out exhaust after riding idle
So ive finally got idle on lock. But after riding in the lot the other day i was having some issues. I'd ride for like 7-8min around the lot on idle never putting it down. Then when i'd come down and stop for a bit and restart the bike i'd get a nice cloud of white smoke and smell of burning oil out the exhaust. It would only smoke for a second or so as it started then it would be ok. It doesn't smoke while i'm riding on idle. I rode around the lot on two wheels for awhile and then shut it off, let it sit, and started it again. No smoke. Then i rode some more on idle, after i stopped and let it sit i started it again and had smoke again just at the startup. I think i'm like 1/2qt overfilled. My oil light never comes on while i'm riding. Is this ok ya think? I'm assuming somehow oil is just getting into the airbox, do i need to change a breather tube or something? I'm just hoping this is nothing bad, i really don't have time/money to fix bad seals or anything.
Re: F4i smoking out exhaust after riding idle
i would guess when your ridin on idel it is loading up alittle. i.e alittle to much fuel in the cylenders and then you shut it off restart and it burns the extra fuel off creating smoke. thats just a guess ussually when you get smoke on startup its the valves? but if it only dose it when you were ideling before shut off i would try revving it up a few times then shut her down i would bet hat if you do this it will not smoke when you restart let me know what happens

oil= white smoke
am i right?
Re: F4i smoking out exhaust after riding idle
you might be dumping oil into the airbox a little. when your in a wheelie it could be putting oil in the back of the airbox and then when you set it down it drains into the cylinders. dont know for sure though

blue-oil
black/sometimes gray-fuel
gray/white-water from condensation in exhaust/condensation in fuel system/coolant being burned in combustion chamber.
hondas are awesome about not putting oil in the airbox, you can always take the airfilter off and see if oils getting in there.

I'm thinkin its gotta be related to running so close to 12 for so long. It doesn't smoke any other time so i'm thinkin its prolly not a big deal.
