Buy a little dirtbike, and play in the woods. get used to slow stuff and uneven surfaces.
other than that, lotensin makes a good point.
parking lots are great and they are lined so that you can gauge how well you are doing with slow turns.

Very ****ing good advise right here, no front brake in the gravel! We all drop our bikes once or twice when we first start riding, not a big deal, this is why people were telling you not to get your bike custom painted yet. But seriously, hit up some parking lots, learn to break fast, swerve, and turn, these are all things that are taught when you take the MFS course. Might not be a bad idea for you to take some lessons, you're going to have to take a riding test sooner or later to get your endorsment right? That's all slow riding, you will not pass if you don't get better.

Re: Worried
you need to go to a flat, open area and lock up your back tire a few times. do it slow and eventually get it going around 20-30. this way if your back end starts to go out from under you, you can keep it under control somewhat.
and stay off the front break when you are on an unstable surface. it will cause your front end to slide out from under you. thats the best advice in this thread.
and man up already. if you let your bike control you, youre going to get seriously hurt. treat your bike like a *****, you have to throw it around a little bit.

at descent speeds the bike will drive itself. look what happens when somone falls off the tank. If you can't control the bike at low speeds you can't at high speeds either. on a straight road a throttle lock can drive a bike at 100mph it takes no skill at all, absolutely none. I always find it funny when noobs talk about going 150 or 160 on a 600. A trained monkey could do that in a straight line. However if something bad happens you have to react. if you can't control it at low speeds there is no way you can at high speeds.
Learn the basics it might not be as cool to brag about but if someone sees you lay it down at 5mph in a parking lot you will look like the biggest idiot ever. especially if you just got done telling them what a good rider you are and how fast you can go.

I've only dropped it three times since I started riding but the one yesterday on a gravel road it got stuck in this valley of gravel and I dropped it really got me worried it bent my rear bake all the way to the exhaust but I fixed it.
Anyways... I heard if you drop your bike the case will crack and start to leak oil leaving me stranded somewhere and if I'm riding alone that would suck ***.
Is there anything I can do to prevent that from possibily happening besides not dropping the bike? Frame sliders, Engine cage?
It's a 1999 Ninja 250R but I found a place to mount some long frame sliders on with help from Rocky... an experinced stunter, would that help prevent leaving me stranded somewhere?

You want to lean the bike into the turn and have your body haning off the other side of the bike,
You gotta learn how to balance your bikes at low speeds. At really low speeds you have to kinda turn the handlebars side to side like if you're trying to stand on a bicycle thats stopped.
Re: Worried
word of advice .. if you cant handle a 250 and ure dropping it while riding slowly or while standing stilL!! do not get anything more than the 250. and i agree with majority dude dont join the army or anything of that nature.
