Clutchless Shifting-Bad?
Clutchless Shifting-Bad?
I used to do this on my Civic all the time when I used to solo race(clutchless downshifting anyway), and I tried this on my bike and it didn't seem to affect it in anyway. Is this bad? I never had a problem with my civic except for the synchros inbetween 1st and 2nd, but thats a common problem with honda's, and it did it before I used to rag on it. On that note, is that a common thing with Honda bikes, or bikes in general? I noticed that every now and then when I come to a stop in neutral(or come to a stop and then put it in neutral), I have to roll the bike either forward or backward to get it to shift into 1st, or shift into second and then back to first. This is the same thing that happens on my civic, and various other honda's I work on(cars, particularly older honda's).

P.S. The reason I'm asking is that its easier to shift like this when I'm up in a wheelie and hold it steady.

Re: Clutchless Shifting-Bad?
i hardly ever use the clutch upshifting...downshifting without the clutch is not recommended, although it is really not a problem...in racing, if you are using the clutch, you are losing time

Re: Clutchless Shifting-Bad?
if you do it right, there is NO stress on the tranny...blipping the throttle while upshifting is how you do it...
i do it on the downshifts too, but it is harder to get the revs right...

Re: Clutchless Shifting-Bad?
I can do it either way(upshift or downshift), but I only really do it when I'm up in a wheelie. Well, thanks guys! I appreciate it. One less part I have to worry about breaking!

Back shifting without clutching can be done but requires more skill in addition you can modulate the clutch and use it as a poor mans slipper clutch. This helps reduce/eliminate rear wheel hop/chatter when back shifting aggressively.
Re: Clutchless Shifting-Bad?
When you're workin the wheelie you want to push it almost a little past the balence point to shift, first preload the shifter, then get that f***er as high as possible and blip the throtle, it will kick into the next gear, get right back on the gas and hold her up. This equals some sick high speed wheelies. Your don't want to be too high in the rev range or too low, too low= no power in the next gear too high= missed shifts
!!!!! Practice clutchless shifts before your up on one!!!
