finding balance point
Re: finding balance point
that's the thing i having trouble with. he does his like that with no problem at all. by the way, my wheelie is getting longer down the road by going 25mph and slip the clutch bringing it up. now it feels so easy to do. like i feel like it's easy as walking and i hit that balance point but studdered on if i should hold it in place on hand throttle or tap gas when needed. it was really light. is sitting on the gas tank hard to bring it up LOL

EVERYTIME i slip the clutch bringing it up in 1st guys at the spot i go to are sayin "don't do that cause ain't no need, do it in 2nd...it'll come up. i'm like...uhhhhh no, i tried over and over and all i hear is my chain pullin hard!
Re: finding balance point
clutching sitting on the tank should be something you try after you master riding BP, and get good throttle controll.... especially w/out a hand brake, cause there is no saving yourself w/out a brake.
Re: finding balance point
the reason it seems easier is you can ride out the rpm range.. if you accidentally grab to much throttle without experience doing it slower it could end up bad..
i learned on a dirtbike.. fell a ton of times.. and it hurt less.. that IMO is the best way to learn.. the thing that didn't transfer over was the clutch up.. a lot more power 2 get use to.. but once i got that down i could ride out bp wheelies and balance them from my db experience..

aaaaahhhh grasshopper...... in due time!
i dont know why everyone is raggin on the squids for...... so he does power wheelies, and thinks he is hitting BP... maybe he is. is it that far fetched to hit BP, and loose it then chase it back up (in and out of bp like he called it) atleast they are here tryin to learn..... i couldnt do anything but chase a wheelie when i came to this site either...... but i did learn you gotta watch what you say lol cause ppl just look for things to bust your head on
(i do the same lol)

Thanks paul for not ragging on me, you've been nothing but positive and you've called me out too, which is something I take in respect because you saw something that you had a better approach at.
In as far as the video goes of that bike looping, it looks like he just grabbed the throttle and never looked back, he would have been alright if he would have eased off of it. By the looks of the vid, it sure wasn't a 6 (which doesn't matter) and I doubt a rear brake could have saved that, it happened so fast, all he had to do was use some engine braking. That's a squid move, but Im through with saying anything. Zuki05 knows where to find me, and I think that learning the powerband is better than clutching when it comes to learning, after that everything else will fall into place.

Re: finding balance point
rolling burnouts arent hard @ all once you get the hang of them, but i have to say.... i dropped my bike more learning burnouts than anything. either wash the front out, and bike fall on its side, or get to doing them in circles, and lowside them.... they are ******* fun as hell though, and youll go through alot of tires.... but THER R FUN! as for that chain/sprocket kit... im not too sure
Re: finding balance point

Re: finding balance point
so i'm down at the spot and i'm doing my wheelies, i get asked again "are you clutching it up". i said yes, they are like "man we don't wanna see you get hurt or see you fall man. "power it up". they say it's less stress on the chain too if you power it up. I thought if you power it up it's more on the chain. power is yanking the chain i thought. but heck, i could be wrong i don't know. bottom line my question is, for wheelies as a beginner.....should i stay with what makes me feel comfortable and not worry of what they say. or should i start powering it up. i feel better clutching it though cause i gotta get up to like 40mph for power wheelies. Paul, Matt, Murph, Thx guys, i'm now slippin my clutch up and i'm riding it really well on one wheel. I'm gonna put on vid as soon as i can so you guys can see. when i 1st came to this site i wasn't even slippin the clutch. sooner or later my avatar will be like louisvillerider....but the legs will be on the pegs lol.

Re: finding balance point
i've got alot better pulling the wheel up, i'm holding it up til i red line lol. now i wanna know do i change gear while my wheel is up? i'm in 1st gear going about 25mph when i clutch it up, but as i ride out the wheelie just churpin a lil gas here/there the rpms are redline and i have no choice but to sit it down. any suggestions?
oh yeah and what gear should i be in to clutch it up on the highway? i do sit down wheelies, i dont' stand up. if your gonna reply i need to be going about 90mph then nvm lol.

Re: finding balance point
I suck, right now learning/trying to ride out slow bp on a geared bike, breaking **** often but turning the oh **** feeling into oh yeah! My highway bike gone 3+ on rear, gives a little more torque. First gear 10-20 what feels good, clutch it up and keep throttle open, get to the oh **** feeling and shift smoothly if your not high enough the bike will drop when you go to shift, keep on going. For me and my bike clutching second around 30-40 most comfortable, still chasing front wheel but less as time goes on, bottom line is like they are saying stand the bitch up, easier said than done especially if you don't want bail or crash when you do go to far.

Re: finding balance point
experience riding - NONE
first bike - 00 zx-9
time owning bike - 1 yr
modifications - -1 front sprocket
choice of wheelie - pow pow
visits to pavement - several
visits to pavement due to pow pow - ZERO
i don't believe that doing pow pows will lead to looping unless there are some other circumstances involved!!! unless there is a pot hole or some alcohol involved, i really don't think looping due to a pow pow is too likely unless some one is playing the role of superman for the moment! this is actually my first time i read this post and i could of probably cut this down to about 20-30 post if there wasn't so much flirting going on!
now, who's up for some line dancing?
