Re: kleen air on my 636-good idea!

and the reed valves are there to let pressure in to the exhaust and not let any back pressure from the exhaust back in to the motor

NO THE REED VALVES LET PRESSURE INTO THE VALVE COVER and this mod DOES BLOW SEALS< just select few bikes.

the only bikes that i could find on here that had any problems were bikes that people ported in to the actual valve cover and did go thru the reed valve which if ported directly in to the valve cover yes it will blow gaskets but not if you go thru the reeds because the reeds are ported thru the exhaust

those twox2 ports on the head are just rigid points for the cam holder...

Re: kleen air on my 636-good idea!

exactly those two holes are ported to the exhaust ports and the two holes under the reed valves are ported to the two holes you have high lighted and the reed valves are under the covers that are now [after the mod]connected by a t fitting to the crank case vent tube which is how the oil from the crank case makes it to the exhaust rather then your air box........

if they were not ported to the exhaust then how would the oil from your crank case breather get to the exhaust to cause the smoke and why would there be reed valves under that cover ,there would be no reason to have the reed valves there because of the crank case vent.......

Re: kleen air on my 636-good idea!

i will bet you that if you were to blow air into the two holes you have high lighted it would come out the exhaust port at the front of the motor as long as that exhaust valve was open..........................

you have the head off so just take an air hose and try it

Just my I bet if you pour gas in one of those ports it will come out the exhaust valve maybe on the combustion chamber side.

Why would they seal off just like the water ports on the head. I bet it routes to the exhaust somewhere inside the valve chamber. That way it gets burnt by going through the combustion chamber instead of just dumping out into the exhaust.
HELL it may even port through the intake side!!! Haven't thought of that

If this is the case then it could still hydrolock if enough oil came in

Not only that but it would be even easier to fill a cylinder with oil with it going directly into the cylinder instead of spraying out into the airbox and finding it's way into the intake.

This is starting to get me worried i wish i had an extra head to take apart myself. I have only had mine blow smoke once after this mod cause i had it filled a little to much with oil and it was on the tail for a second while it was stalled.

I may be ok now but i just wanna know all possibilities

Re: kleen air on my 636-good idea!

no it can't hydro lock as long as the bike is running the oil will have no chance to get in the combustion chamber because it would be expelled from the force of the exhaust....

you would have to have the bike off and standing on the front wheel past the 12 oclock position before it could fill up the cylinder

Re: kleen air on my 636-good idea!

the reason it hydro locks in stock form is because it is getting sucked in to the combustion chamber thru the throttle bodies, with this mod it gets sucked into the exhaust port which is like being on the other side of the combustion chamber ,so no it wont hydro lock with this mod....

Re: kleen air on my 636-good idea!

So much going on in this thread.

Should I do this or not? I have everything I need to do it. Just need to know if I am chancing blowing gaskets.

Should I keep the stock setup at the valve cover and run a hose from there, or pull out the whole thing?

Re: kleen air on my 636-good idea!

do the mod ,you wont blow any gaskets , and if you don't fully understand how the mod works then do it just like the link says....you don't want to make any changes to the mod unless you understand what your changes will do

Yeah I understand that its just after seeing those pictures of the exhaust port with no visible port to the kleen air valves it made me think maybe it vents to the intake ports instead. You really can't tell without having the head in your hands i guess.

I don't know for sure its just a thought.... Maybe Wheeliest will look into the intake ports too.

Re: kleen air on my 636-good idea!

if you look where the two holes are that he high lighted you will see they are positioned perfectly to be ported into the exhaust ,not the intake

they are on the wrong side of the head for the intake that would make no sense for them to put the holes there if they went into the intake

Re: kleen air on my 636-good idea!

you cap the hole in the air box but the t that that hose goes to is where you hook up your crank case vent tube

Re: kleen air on my 636-good idea!

roger was right, ports go to the top of the exhaust valves... idon't under stand how this mod will blow gaskets since the ports are sealed to the valve cover... maybe if u had bad carbon build up from blowby it could block out the ports, but they are pretty big so idunno...
