Red Light

My buddie's red light for his fuel injection came on for his 2003 Gixxer6 and I was wondering what it could be so we can try to fix it... He doesn't want to take it in and get raped by the dealers.... It runs fine and still reaches top speed, never sputters or anything goes fine through every gear so I am like clueless as to what it coudl be.
Thanks

Re: Red Light
How do you look up codes? I'm a total newbie when it comes to working on bikes but you gotta start somewhere! I'm guessing like cars there is a light and you count the number of times it flashes to tell you what is wrong but where is that light.
Re: Red Light
I work on old vw's a lot, which are similar to a motorcycle engine (4 cylinders and aircooled), and if you're a total newb:
a) fuel injection is not the place to start
b) don't just tear **** apart, it'll cost you more when you mess something else up and/or forget what goes where and then have to take it in to the dealer with multiple problems, than if you'd just taken it to the dealer with the first problem
c) if you still insist on doing it yourself, research, research, research. read the owners manual for the bike and search the internet for information on the engine and fuel injection system on the model bike your friend has. if the bike has an computer on it, which it sounds like it does, get a scanner that can read the computer and tell you what's wrong with the bike.
whatever you do...DON'T just go tearing things apart, that's the worst thing you could possibly do.

Re: Red Light
there is a white square plug under the rear seat has two wires, goes to nothing.
use a paper clip and jump the two wires together if there is a FI light on where the temp is located it will tell you the code #'s it will usually say C zero something something. do a search for gsxr codes on the internet done. you will know what is wrong with the bike no charge

+1 listen to this wise man.
You can do that same thing out at the spot to jump your cooling fan to run all the time.
