Track riding
Re: Track riding
some boats with dual i/o's will have one of the motors spin backwards. besides that i cant think on anything that should be different
Re: Track riding
What direction does a propeller need to turn? A car engine turns clockwise, I think. Still though, that has nothing to do with the long block of the engine. That is all cam and ignition. If it has a cracked block I could pull it, bring it back to my garage and swap out most of the parts in a new block. I'd rather buy something running though.
Here's what I found about the difference between motors. Basically gaskets, freeze plugs, water pumps, exhaust, and anything electrical.

Re: Track riding
Probably like a jet ski. Takes water from the high pressure part of the jet pump and forces it through the motor.
Re: Track riding
Looking from the back of a boat, a standard rotation prop turns clockwise. But you can get outdrives that spin the other way. If you have two engines, it's best to have the props turn different directions to avoid them walking sideways.

Re: Track riding
running salt water through anything is such a bad idea. id rather make room for a radiator. salt water rusted the exhaust on my old dodge to its death in 1 year
Re: Track riding
My father had a 14' checkmate with a 140 hp outboard. It would literally jump itself out of the water. Man that was a fun boat. It would do about 70 mph. His friend bought a 15' checkmate and put a 200 hp motor on it. It almost sunk just sitting there but that boat was scary fast. Somewhere around 85 mph.
Re: Track riding
if theyre making custom camshafts anyway, at that point its pretty easy to spin a motor backwards. especially if it doesnt have a water pump. Think what else has to be reversed.. a couple wires?
Re: Track riding
Boats run in salt water year round and don't have many issues. I flush mine when I take it out but I don't worry about it.
Re: Track riding
Have you ever seen the Ski Doo 2 strokes that run both directions? They're pretty neat. Instead of adding a reverse gear, you hit a button, the motor dies, and starts up in the opposite direction.
Re: Track riding
They charge like $1000 for reverse rotation. The timing setup, the distributor, and the cam are all different. I'm sure there's more.
