depends on how tall your crane is. obviously a regular size engine hoist isnt gonna be tall enough to get the motor over the back.

the motors probably a 350 or something else real common like that, rare v8's are rare in boats lol, so getting parts wont be an issue.

actually getting the old one out wont be hard. you just unbolt everything, drive to the scrapyard, and tell them to lift it out. to get the new engine in, you'll need an engine stand in your truck, a come-along, 2 tie down straps, and a tree with a very strong branch

Not bad if you have an overhead crane. Boat motors are stupid expensive though. I barely paid more than that for my 1995 in perfect running order and that was like 4 years ago.

An 18 footer probably has a 4 or a 6. From what I've been told, marine and auto parts are not interchangeable for the most part.

Honestly what is the difference between a car engine and a boat engine? Other than a different cam? If I get a fixxer upper I'd make sure my friend with a pole barn would rent me space. He is a whiz when it comes to all things GM and has a decent sized tractor with a front bucket.

I've narrowed down my search to this:
1990+
Bow Rider
Inboard/outboard
18-20'
4.3 or 350 or something similar

I think in another 6 weeks the prices should start to come down as people realize that they need to sell now or pay to winterize/store.

Re: Track riding

Spoke with a guy at work. Sounds like CRF's are real sensitive to old fuel. Drained that bitch out last night and filled the lawn mower. Going to try fresh gas tonight. Hopefully I don't have to remove and clean the carb.

No idea, really. Someone once told me rotation but I find that hard to believe. Exhaust manifolds are definitely different, other than that I don't know.

A 350 will suck fuel like crazy. The 4.3 is a good compromise. I don't mind my 3.0. It's great on fuel, will pull tubes/skiers/wakeboarders, and still does about 42 mph.

What direction does a propeller need to turn? A car engine turns clockwise, I think. Still though, that has nothing to do with the long block of the engine. That is all cam and ignition. If it has a cracked block I could pull it, bring it back to my garage and swap out most of the parts in a new block. I'd rather buy something running though.

My father had a 14' checkmate with a 140 hp outboard. It would literally jump itself out of the water. Man that was a fun boat. It would do about 70 mph. His friend bought a 15' checkmate and put a 200 hp motor on it. It almost sunk just sitting there but that boat was scary fast. Somewhere around 85 mph.
