Oil is the biggest marked up item. Cost is 33-40% of what they charge. Tires the markup isn't that big. On a set of zippy tires for my fiddy it was $2-3 on a $23 tire.

I worked parts at a dealership...

we'd give almost anyone 10% off

20% off meant you were someone we really liked... a good friend, whatever

People that were VERY close personal friends or teamates or myself, i hooked up with stuff at cost (whatever we got it in for...)

20% isnt BAD, they have to make a little money to cover shipping and time and crap... they could prolly afford to give you 25%...

It all depends on the item too... some stuff get barely any markup, one thing i remember is scott dampers... cost was only 10-20% less than retail...

other items get CRAZY hookup... like stock plastics and some other aftermarket parts, where markup was more like 35-50%

Markup on streetbike tires must be pretty good. Prices on the web can be up to $75 dollars less than dealer prices.

A lot of dealers charge MSRP which can be $225+ for a rear while usually you can find them for $150 on the web.

Re: I've been busy...

Dennis Kirk, which is usually similar to a dealer gets $212 for a Pilot Power Rear, while ronayers.com get $160. I bet they are both paying the same price for tires.
