You can get good wine for $10-$15 a bottle and great wine for $20-30 a bottle. Any higher than that and it is all prestige/hype that you are paying for. I'm not a big wine fan but I have heard that from my sister and a brittish guy that used to work here. Both know their wines.

Let her buy some big girl/non trailer trash wine.

Chateau Ste Michelle is very good and it's cheap. We buy the Gewurztraminer but they have a nice merlot and a riesling too.
Woodbridge is also a good one.
Edit: I know that these are not high end but they are very good for their price range and I think they can hold their own against more expensive wines. My family and friends have a palate that is refined enough to know when a wine is garbage but not too refined that expensive wine is necessary.
