I really like my STIHL chainsaw. I have the MS 391 model. According to MikeM though my wrists are too limp and gay to actually use it.

Yeah I was looking at home depot and wasn't sure about the echo or homelite, but I do like this poulan pro:

ehh the reviews on this one were not great actually......people seem to have trouble starting it and keeping it running......but that's generally the nature of chainsaws.......the echo has great reviews but for twice the $$

Re: Bought my wife a new rack *PICS*

I have a Stihl 025. It's about perfect for a home owner. Same as the MS250. (http://www.stihlusa.com/chainsaws/MS250.html) My father had a couple of old Poulans that have seen hundreds of cord of wood. I'm not sure they're the same as the Home Depot ones though. For occasional use, an echo, homelite, or Poulan should be fine. If you're looking for cheap, go to a big box store. If you want quality, check out a power equipment dealer.

I'm looking for right in between and think the echo will do......the poulan got awful reviews and is not what I expected from them.....it's only 159.99 at home depot and $10 more at loews......reviews were bad on both sites......The echo is the same basic thing, $299, and got excellent reviews......that's about as much as I'm willing to spend.

Re: Bought my wife a new rack *PICS*

I just did a little research and the two my father has are Partner saws. Which became Poulan and then Poulan pro. The Partners were a commercial use saw and with each name change have moved towards the home use market. The current Poulan saws have nothing in common with the old Partner saws.

The stihl MS250 is only about $320. The only thing with Stihl saws is you have to use their chains, or ones made for Stihls. They don't swap with other manufacturers. I'd check with a power equipment dealer. You should be able to get into a decent saw for $300.

I can't find a bad review on the Stihl MS250.

i did it all by fighting, not by jobs. when you gain in one, you lose 50% in the other. so i dont think its actually possibly to get both to 1500 at the same time

I have a little homelite saw from the 1980s. You can borrow it for a long time if you want, since i only have 3 trees.
