weird brake problem
weird brake problem
97 gsxr 600/750 is what i have. no some days i'll go out riding and my brakes will be peachy but other days i can roll through the parking lot and my lever will pull almost to the bar, then it will be like that all day most of the time. now when i'm riding i can watch the left rotor and it looks like it wobbles a bit, but the brakes don't pulsate when i brake, even highspeed. now this situation really sucks for stoppies cause i have to pump it a few times before it has enough pressure to bring the back up, meaning the lever feel is very inconsistant. why would it do this sometimes but not all the time???????????/// help!

Sounds like you need to bleed your brakes.... check for leaks. Over time you can see small leaks.. If your pads need changing do it. Post back if you do not know how to bleed the air out, I will explain.....
Yo, please explain. I think this is the reason why I'm having trouble rolling endos. If I pump them a few times real hard before I try they seem to roll better. I change my fluid myself, but if I have an airbubble in my line I'd like to get it out without changing all the fluid.
maybe i should have given more info,
ebc HH pads--> good condition
fastline stainless
i let my friend barrow my bike for a show and he had a shop bleed the brakes, he thought maybe that was the problem too, so they are firm, just that the lever pulls too far in, and again this doesn't happen all the time, some times it's normal. it's not fade either because sometimes it will happen just pulling away from the garage. we did a show a few weeks ago and the brakes were great for the whole show, thank-god, but this is annoying the hell out of me. why would it be some times but not all the time. please help!!!

make sure your lines/and banjo bolts aren't leaking but.....
you said that you had to "pump" the breaks up a few times to get them to work. after you do this, and are stopped do the breaks stay firm? if they do, than its not because of leaks or air in the lines. air will make the lever feel mushy or spongy. leaks will allow the handle to slow come in on itself. sounds to me like your warped rotors are pushing the pads and pistons of your calipers out, away from the disk. because the master cylinder on bikes displace such little volume of fluid when you pull the lever, the first few pulls merely push the pistons and pads back to the disk. when the pad finally contacts the disk thats when you feel the solid pressure again. hard to say not seeing the bike, but sounds to me like its time to replace those rotors.
an interesting side note, a nice tanks slapper can give you the same "no brakes" feel until you pump em back. the centrifugal force (momentum) can throw the pistons back into the calipers.
goodluck
