Tony D and I did the same thing to a 98zx9, the bike was on the limiter for at least 30 min with no coolant. It never did blow up. What kills motors is when you put a heavy load on them. Do a stand still burnout shifting thru the gears, get it in a high enough gear to where you can give it full throttle without the bike hitting the rev limiter. The rod usually blows thru the front or back near the starter dumping oil onto the header. Then you have the fuel that is still going into the cylinder which also comes out and gives you that nice big crowd pleasing flame.

During burn outs and driving the engine is underload. That puts more wear on the engine faster. Doing a burnout also really screws with your hole drivetrain.
Anyway the internel combustion engine itself is really tough, exspecialy when built right. If you ever watch mythbusters in a few episodes they put engines through tthe test, and most of the time still run.
