front fork adjustments....
Re: front fork adjustments....
Only time I ever blew a seal was after ratcheting the crap outta my bike when I was a noob....
Replaced the seals and took the advice of the mechanic (good friend of mine now) and only tie down the bike till it won't sway from side to side... there's absolutely NO NEED to compress the forks when tying down your front end.
3 bikes later and still haven't had any seals go.
What do you think happens to all the fluid when you compress the fork all the way down? It creates pressure.
Dirt and scratches WILL make seals wear out faster... but the #1 killer is overcompressing your fork tubes....
Guarantee you take a brand new bike off the showroom floor and ratchet the **** outta the forks and they will be blown within a week.... if not by the time you get home.
Thats why sometimes, the 'film negative trick' works.. It removes the dirt, and the seals are sometimes still fine
I blew my seals uot and NEVER strapped my bike down..
Yet my dirt bike I strap down TIGHT everytime we go ride, as well as bottom out the forks al the time, and I have the fluid overfilled, still never blown
Re: front fork adjustments....
I've read dozens of articles, and huge debates on dirt bike forums, and everyone always comes to the general concensous that dirt/debris/bentfork/mared legs cause blown seals.

Street bike forks are a lil bit different.... very true, scratches, dings and nicks on the tube will accelerate seal wear and eventually end up in failure.... but I learned this particular lesson for myself.
Try it.... go out and strap your forks down in the back of a truck/trailer ect... ratchet them down as far as you can get them.... leave it for the night.
See what happens the next day.
Re: front fork adjustments....

Re: front fork adjustments....

Nope, no you didn't!!!! There is no such thing as a REAR ******* FORK!!!!!
Holy ****... I tried to spell it out for you and everything. Did you really think you have to have the rear shock on the same settings as the front.
