THOMAS, I think this thread is great. I think you made us all think about what is really going on. I'm not gonna say to much because EVERYONE that has replied has said something good. As far as what you said about "as of right now, we are sponsored by no one". That is the most real thing I've heard. We feel the same exact way, I showed this thread to Jeff and we both came to the same dissision that you have.
I feel that our local sponsors with little money are treating us better than big sponsors with big money. We have three sponsors that are a "free ride" for us. They do what they have to, to be a "real sponsor". I could go on and on, but i'm not because now i've got to get busy writnig letters to our "half" sponsors.

After reading all these threads it seems everyone has the same general idea. The bottom line is this, if you want a company to lay out loads of cash to support your stunt addiction then you need to produce, plain and simple. Why don't many stunt teams get promoted??? Simple it's alot cheaper to promote one person who can bring crowds to an event than it is to support 5. Lets face it, stunting has come so far so fast that what was insane last year, the kid down the block is doing today. There are a few individuals out there that seem to always be at the forefront of the stunting community. Those are the guys that will inevitably get paid. This isn't a sport of teams so the best man is gonna get the props. And fellas in the world of big business, image is everything, so let's learn from the pros and keep the practice bikes, and leathers home at events and rock the cleanest **** you can afford.

what ever happen to just fun...i guess you guys are to good for fun now.DO YOU EVEN REMEMBER WHAT IT WAS LIKE LAYIN IN BED AT NIGHT THINKING ABOUT WAYS TO DO A TRICK YOU WANNA DO NEXT OR EVEN ONE YOU FINALY STUCK.ill work the 80 hours a week just so i can have the money to ride for 1 day.But no one is ever satisfied gotta have more money.and to whoever bangs on the ones that are up and comming.we buy your fukin videos so dont dog us...remember we are the opnes doin it for fun.....not money.
Shugga nice pic you posted of Rodg who made a statement to the effect that anyone riding on the street & stunting was ruining the guys who stunt competitively's chances of getting sponsorship well I have to say I disagree for the following reasons
#1 what sponsor in their right corporate mind is going to sponsor someone who has pic's on a website stunting in a parking lot with not even so much as a helmet on that would'nt be good representation for them and it's just plain bad business
#2 I personally have numerous sponsors that pay me cash money to run their parts, wear their protective gear, and all carry & sell my video's in which a good percent of my video's are filmed on our controlled streets
So although the evolution of this sport is a slow and ongoing process remember years ago before when skateboarding was a crime and now there are all sorts of skate parks everywhere? well I still see kid's skateboarding on the streets today illegally my point is this sport was born on the streets and even after it is fully developed it will still be on the streets to some extent
so i say keep pushing forward and remember presentation is key to landing big name sponsors

my stunts aren't at mach 9.
and in the event i was paid cash money by sponsors to ride and they said wear a helmet at all times, i would. unfortunately we all don't have the unfair california advantage.

Ok that makes two of us my circle wheelies and no handers arent at mach 9 either and as far as having an unfair California advantage I disagree if your riding conditions are unacceptable you should change your living situation like other stunnas in pursuit of a professional career and as far as wearing a helmet all of the time that's part of the presentation thing that I was speaking of I think sponsors would more readily select you if you were wearing protective gear at all times, I mean at events you cant compete without protective gear it's just not accepted so i try to wear gear that i would compete in.... just my theory

it sounds to me that some people are looking for the easy way
look at golf tiger get like 750,000 for playing golf one weekend but the sport brings in 50,000 people that spend 200 for tickets and other things at the event so your looking at a huge invoice for large payouts
the biggest event i have been to was like 1000 people that is not a lot of money coming in compared to other sports so small payouts
as far as the "mt. dew sponsership" it is much easier to present yourself to a company as already sponcered that a team that cant get a sponser. have to start somewhere
stuntin will never leave the streets has street racing left the streets and moved to the tracks.
as far as standing back and letting "the good guys" take over and get the money as far as i am concerned you might outride me but when you have the pr ability to take my sponsers that is when you can have them i wont move over for anyone.
sorry ......

, exactly my point, anyone with a bike thinks they can form a team and start calling sponsors.

Rodge you seem to puff up your chest alot for someone thats only been around a short while. Your either, A) 1st at something, B) or the best at something. Your answer C. Invent your own **** then start talking like everyone owes you respect. Or at best, earn some respect, don't demand it. That only gets you hated on, which seems to be the only trick you do besides 12's

observation, not my opinion. most of my statements are observations.
The first BikeWeek Show on Speed Channel, Dave Despain and the rest of the writing crew made fun of the fact that there were over 200 stunt teams accross the nation, and half of them have boyz, the other half extreme. Are you telling me there are 200 competitive teams out there? there's not, but all 200 are seeking sponsorship w/ a image that I would not perfer to be affiliated w/ what I do. That is my point, and I'm stickin to it.
i'm being sabotaged. and i'm not scared to say something about it.

RIGHT ON THOMAS
I have to agree with Thomas, if the companies get it for free....why pay? Especially when companies say they have no budget.....then they have no presence....they have budgets to invest in multimillion dollar ventures for products catering to this market, but they forgot their marketing budget.....WTF ever..,...

I think any team can be a top team over night. This sport is not even on a professional level where there are levels you must meet to become of a certian status. your observations and theories are based on the riders point of you. stunters are making up the rules as they go along.
any team can call a sponsor, what resume should they provide? what other local riders or stunt riders think there the best? is there a true league for this sport that is used as a medium to state someones status or professionalism? No, not at all.
so whos to say some retard from down the street who knew how to present himself couldnt get sponsors over night?
all you need to do is prove you can sell the sponsors services/products and your sponsored. its really simple.
everyone is getting caught up about making fun of how many teams there are out there, and how little teams are really competitive. We only know these rules because we make them up with not a foot to stand on.
almost like starting a company and posting a ad for an employee. person comes in for an interview and you ask for a resume to see their previous experience in the field....all they show you is experience in a field that hasnt even formed it in a field to began with.
the market is open...there is no solid direction other then the direction you choose to follow. Sooner or later their will be, but your talking about the future, not now.
thats the reason why you have 200 stunt teams.
you dont see every BMX rider in the world posting up a website telling the world their professional do you? Of course not, because its a sport that is national recongized but the media/public.
you guys are talking like this sport has been on ESPN for 10 years. there not even a solid rule book to even judge someones skills on a consistent bases other then what you felt was cool yesterday, and what you think is cool today.
just my two cents lol.
