just my two cents lol.
Yep...that is how I was taking it as well. They will probably be the ones to pressure the sponsors we do have and scare them out of this sport....not a good thing . We need ALOT more time to prove ourselves and attract an audience like the Europeans do. Our #1 goal right now should be "Gaining a larger Spectator Base". Without the spectators this sport is DEAD.

you know you also have to look at the progress. 6 years ago, you just had a few individuals from here and there who did wheelies. it then moved on to producing tapes....websites, now we are finally starting the very first baby stages of actual competitions...although its all privately funded, and no real orginazation. in time the competitions will flow correctly, and once thats set in stone, the next phase will come along.

we still have a long way to go people. long way to go. for the ones like myself who have been involved in this from nearly the start, you would agree that we have been saying this broken record for YEARS. "in 2 years, its going to be huge, going to me mainstream".

just back track the progress, its in at a running stage, but at a walking stage. we just starting to see sportbikes hit the main stream this year...in movies...small bits...here and there...slowely but surely it will happen. till then, this game is open to anyone. even joe retard down the street.

as far as sponsors..I wouldnt worry to much Jimmy. No one is going to scare anyone off. It has nothing to do with liability or image that would scare a sponsor away.. those are just a sub defnition of trying to tell us, guys, your gig isnt ready for the big money, till then, give us a call.

thats all you have to remember

we didnt start it but we damn sure pushed it and we will damn sure finish it

anyone can ride a bike but it takes a real person to make it in the real world

not someone who wants to capitalize on the industry

business goes hand and hand. riding all day isnt going to help anything progress. its the organizations with business sense who understand the rideres passion to make it happen.

thats why there are riders who rider, and the agent who sells the rider. you need money to survive.

there are the ones who capitalize on markets for the pure goal of dollar signs. These are the people you usually can pick up on, because the goals really dont make any sense...

then they are the ones who are business savy, and love the sport. these are the people you want to be involved with. With the passion, the sport is safe, and it will grow to the level it should be at, not the direction of a dead end, fly by night money making pocket graven, short change dollar or two business.

I disagree. That was the 1st trick i learned. 3 weeks into stunt riding i was touching tail and riding slow wheelies. I think i learned *** backwards, but now I got 100% control over the bike on any other trick i learn.

But as far as sponsors, or anyone that helps you out. I F-ck up my bike about every week - and I can use anyone, even if it is just a discount to help me out.

Commercial or underground - this sport is fun & always will be fun. The time when you dread hangin' a wheel is time you hang it up.

Well the problem is that some of us assume that no one learned 12'z first b/c most of us didnt?? Reason being is that when I first learned wheelies, 12'z werent even conceivable. But thanks to some creative riders who are willing to push the envelope 12'z have become mainstream.
In my opinion, I think it would be beneficial to learn 12'z first if you are a new stunt rider. It definitely forces you to learn balance point and brake control right off the bat. Skillz that will help you as a complete stunt rider. Instead of trying to re-calibrate your control half way into it. Which is where I am at.
As far as the sport itself I think that it has grown tremendously over the last few years. It takes time and I agree that the more it is taken off the streets the more mainstream it will be. But lets not fool ourselves this sport will always be on the streets in some form or another. The lure of underground riding on the streets has its own certain appeal and element of risk and there will always be riders who feed off that.
Just my opinion boyz....

I agree. All winter I was on stuntlife watching these stunts that were off the hook, everything to do w/ brake control, scrapin', circles.

so - 1st trick I wanted try was scrapin. Rode my 50 all winter & got brake control - then it was on.

Like you said - now im not pulling crazy 100 mph power wheelies , I got control. Only downside is - a year ago you were the MAN if you were scrapin. Now its just another guy touchin tail. Guess its circles next!

DSOG Thomas +1 all the way.......

We are a stunt crew from alaska "Arctic Attack" and we have a better handle
on getting sponsors, then most of the crews that deserve it! don't sell your self short cuz if you do the sponsors will too. we have a manager that does a great gob i.e free bikes and apparel we have 3 free Buells and a free Honda we get free Tats and cash and tons of support, we get paid for our shows more then what most teams get paid! but we put on a great show... so they don't mind paying for it. you need to work your *** off and market your self better then the next guy, show them what they want to see and tell them what they need to hear then fallow through on it!

So don't be a **** and give it away .....be a ***** and get paid for it!

Nicely said Thomas the No Fear sponsor truck stopped by today. at my shop im out front wiping sit down circles and just killin **** as they pull up dude gets out and is wig split had two sponsored surfers and a FMX dude. this is str8 from him "We would love to help you street bike guys out but....Your just not mainstream enough" i even got props from the FMX rider who just flat out said that the **** we do is twice as hard. I'll admit im no darius or woods but hell who decides when we go mainstream I think the sponsors do the more were backed the larger the sport will get.

yeah, that's great when you have a bike to ride, and when you are broke a$$ kid with no bike like me, and no money to finance it, then you get your a$$ out and look for sponsors...currently it's the only way for me to do what I love...cuz if I could afford myself a bike I would never get a sponsor and just ride free w/out any obligations, dates and rules from the contract...

You do want you do and ill do what i do.......the only reason you care is because you make a profit off other riders...i see where your comming from ...if i relied on others to make my money i wouldn't want them to undersell themselves either....but ill ride for a discount or free....i have a real job..riding is a fun hobby, not to be taken seriously ......for those who do...thanks for ruining the fun of it and turning it into golf

You want this stuff off the streets ??? Shiat this stuff grew up on the streets so it will always be there in some form or another.
How did you learn stunting, for damn sure some street was involved. I am also sure you just didnt jump on your bike and start doing circles in a parking lot so spare us all your hypocritcal remarks.

Re: this disgusts me, lets see who gets offended?!?!

Ok I only read until page two until I was pooped but I have to interget my knowledge take it or leave..

1) Thomas is right. in many point.
in regards to the factory sponsorship comments.
I know FIRST HAND as I was the first and only (to my knowledge) american stunt rider ever invited down to Kawasaki Motor Corp. to represent this sport and serious discuss possible support. FIRST thing out of their mouths was what year bike do u ride and is it streetfighter. if it is streetfightered they were VEEEEEERRRRRRRYYYYY stern about letting me know which way the door was. 2nd thing out of their mouth was liability and warranty just like thomas said. FACT. My opinion is:

WE ARE NOT READY FOR FACTORY SPONSORSHIP

I met with them abuot 5 months ago and at that time i felt i was ready and was very dishearted to hear their (extremely polite) reply. but in hinsight I agree. we are not ready. soon maybe but not yet. myself as a rider I am still very neive and young in this industry and still have much to prove. our sport even more.

2)SPONSORSHIPS IN GENERAL

I would like to think that I know my way around sponsorships.
I consider myself one of, if not the, most sponsored rider in america. im not bragging thats fact. I have check stubs to prove it.

I learned A LOT from Pauly LVX in regards to sponsorships.
I wrote a really detailed HOW TO in regards to sponsorships on stuntride.com check it out.

No one that I know of was ever taught about sponsorships in school its a learned processe. it takes time to LEARN precieved value. it takes along time to develop a strong successful program, series, reputation that companies want to be involved with monitarily or image wise.

We all make mistakes and learnig takes time

A company puts their reputation on the line every time a rider claims they are sponsored. product is easy for them to write off as promotional use only.
and fact is they know, we know, they dont have to. they can get 10 teams for cheaper..

Thomas is very right.
I agree

and the best sentace he said was that the Metal Mulisha almost had to boycott their sponsors in order to get them to kick in..
luckily i think our sport has actually received more love and is on an easier paved road.. .

I also laugh when he said that we are all here on Stuntlife talking and ya that should HELP us ALL.. but fact is all the top riders are social with each other ya but rarely do any of em tell each other the realities of their inner workings.. call it ego call it whatever..

we all have certain skills that are very profitable to the sport as a whole if we help each other but no one wants to help each other. cause we are all in it for ourselves and dont want to help the competition.

im tired of typing late...

-kane
