yeah my 97 gixxer has 15k on it and i ride the hell out of it. started knockin, got a cam chain tensioner, knock went away. but thats just mine. good luck with it.

 

my gxr has over 30k miles on it and been involved in two hi-speed accident flippin end over end.. still running strong.. maybe you just got a lemon.. gixxers rock!

or maybe this will happen to every bike u own and you will then blame it on the manufacturer...

 

To check the valves you have to know what the stock specs are. I don't really remember them off hand but they specify the clearance between the valve and the cam shaft. There are the exhaust and intake ones too. To check them you need a little tool called feeler gauge. The clearance will be a range along the line of .20-.30 and such. You have to take you valve cover off and be able to turn your cam shaft from the right side manually. Not that hard but to complicated for me to explain on here. Do you have a manual cam tensioner on your bike or an automatic one? Manual ones are easier to work with. Automatics are a little tricky but still doable. My advice is to check the clearance first and then play with the cam chain. Change the oil to something good as well as the filter.

I stunt gixxers for about 6 years now do wheelies fot miles...and i still didn't have any problems yet...and the best of all ...i don't even got a oil pickup... .. just put a little more oil in your bike than usual !

 

dont put a bar on a gixxer and stay away from the rev limiter and it shouldnt give you any problems. If you do old *** bar tricks or revlimiter anything it's not going to last very long.

 

 

yeh u have to when u wheelie it often. its best to overfill it just a little but not too much above the full limit mark. that way ur oil wont fry somewhat faster than usual

Look i just bought myself this afternoon a brand new Black Suzuki Gsx-r 750 for stuntriding instead of the 1000

 

I had and 01 and a 03 gixxer 750 went through three engines on each, i did all the maintenance, had the oil pick up, still kept spinning bearings, PIECES OF S**T. Every new engine always had some metal shavings that is normal for gixxers, Thats why its HONDA all the way now:YEAH

 

I have close to 20 K miles on my 05 gixxer 1k, and haven't had a problem, I just replaced my clutch for the first time like a thousand miles ago... it's all in how you take care of it. Maybe you just got unlucky and got something not put together right out of the dealership.

I own a kawi 05'ZZR600 (same as a 02'ZX6R) with 10k on it an I stunt the **** out of it and it is running perfect!! Now My F4i has only 4500 miles on it ,and the cam chain is rattling like crazy. I guess I have to put an aftermarket tensioner on it to stop the rattling,but I actually think the kawi motor is better. maybe I'm crazy ,but that's how I feel.

 

If youve got copper coloured shavings and bits of metal that means you spun a bottem end bearing 100%, I got $100 that says its rod #1 that spun....
