Holy **** 12 thousand miles on it...starts knocking..noticed shavings all in my oil...im so pissed i had an oilpickup tube and everything..i owe so much money on this godamn bike..that i cant even ride...broke..trying to get ahold of a wrecked 04 05 gixxer 600 750 and use the motor...but who knows! i just have to vent..maybe somoene can tell me a more fucked up story and make me feel better...i love motorycles..and i love riden them..if i cant ride.i pretty much feel worthless

My friend has the 05 600, oil changes every 2,000 with amsoil and he has about the same mileage. Maybe you just got unlucky or did something that your not thinking about. It will all smooth out. This thread makes me want to go change my oil. HAHA

As an owner of an 04 gixxer and someone who works fixing them for a living don't panic just yet about your bike. 12K is about the right time for them to start knocking. 2 things that cause it most of the time are the valves or the cam chain. Check them yourself or have someone who knows what they are doing check them. Shavings in the oil is a normal thing. Your gixxer should have a magnet in the oil bolt to pick them up. If after all those things it still knocks really loud then your motor might be fucked. I just noticed the same thing on my motor and after adjusting the valves and changing the oil it's back to it normal quiet self.

Its a good thing to know at least, I didnt know that shavings are normal.

 

All bikes have shavings in the motor. Some more than others. Depends on the oil you use, the materials the internals are made of and how hard you ride it. If you are like every other stunt rider out there I am sure that you spend more of your time in 1st gear on high idle and banging it of the rev limiter. If you are abusing your bike more than the average joe does you should take extra care of it.

 

so copper and metal shavings...are fine?? the cam chain is fine...and the valves seem to be in order...how do i check the valves??
