50 Questions, need input

OK,
Which forks?
Billet rims or spokes and why?
who has the best front rotor set up?
What do you think about rear disk brakes?

Best forks usually come with a front disc set up. In my opinion Marzocchi's are the best but at 1500$ you get forks, tripples, front hub, rim, spokes, and a hydraulic disc set up. You can get almost the same thing from Red Baron or Sano for alot less. Hanebrrink also have killer forks but I think their more than the zoccis.

When it comes to forks you really have to know what your willing to spend, because they range from 300$ to 1500$.

For the street Id say billet wheels because they are strong and look pimp. For dirt HD spokes and aluminum rims, I have a black rim HD spokes and a Reeg billet hub and rear disc brake kit on order. The disc in the rear on my kit is mecanical it locks up the wheel really easy, I like it but its one of those things you have to get used to before you like it.

Agreed, BBR SP5's or either Sik50's forks are the best budget forks that work great.

And on a side note Hanebrink forks are terrible forks.

The Stavrons are one of the best on the market, them and the Marrzochi 35mm's are pretty much identical in performance.

Re: 50 Questions, need input

the fast50's are cool forks due to the fact that you can run either the stock drum unit or a disk brake, but they are a smaller fork with less travel and the rebound dampening isn't as good as the other forks on the market. I still say for $439 and some change, plus the fork oil and xr70 seals the Sp-5's are the way to go. I will reply more about these forks in the next week or so, I am putting a set on a friends bike. He is only 135lbs though so he is not upgrading the seals or using heavy duty oil but we will see how well they work out of the box.

Re: 50 Questions, need input

just a question
why not use xr 70 front forks and triples?
150 bux for the forks 20 for the seals 15 for new oil 70 for fork springs
250 for a sweet set of forks. exactly the same as the bbr sp5's
obviously they arent the 1500.00 marz inverted forks.but for 250 youll be able to jump anything that frame can handle with the 70 forks, and it bolts right up.

Re: 50 Questions, need input

Because stock xr70 forks have 3.2" of travel, the softest springs ever, and you have to have a tab welded onto them for the xr50 drum to work. Plus I would love to know your going to get them for $150, thats the price of one leg new at a Honda shop, not to mention another $100+ for the tripples, and the another $100 for the damping rods from BBR, and then another $100 for stiff springs.

Re: 50 Questions, need input

actually i spoke out of turn the forks went with triples for 187.50,http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMEWA%3AIT the tab is already there, the springs are buy it now for 69.00 bbr springs for those forks so i was off by a few bux under 300.00.valving is for the serious mx guys or road racers and they arent going to use those forks anyway.and 30 bux for a front brake cable.dont forget that.
jester it may not be good enough for you,you may be one of the few that can ride beyond the limits of these stock forks, and for that level of riding i agree they probably are crappy, but for general novice ,intermediate riders, they would be fine.
