I can't pop this ****er up!
I can't pop this ****er up!
Okay now, I've been riding for almost two months. I know it's not a long time but I'm sick of my other friends who have been riding for about the same time pop up stand-up wheelies and wheeliers in 2nd or 3rd gear. I have an SV1000S. I know it's not the best stunt bike, but I hear it's a great wheelie bike. I am 6'3, 300 lbs. I'm wondering if it's my size or I am just doing **** wrong. If I double crack it at 3,000 RPM's it comes right up but then I can't hold it. I would like to try to get it up in 2nd gear at least for right now. So what is the easiest way to do it? Currently I'm trying to clutch it up at 7.000 RPM's in 2nd, but all it does is throw the bike forward even with my *** all the way back. I need help guys, thanks.
Re: I can't pop this ****er up!
read the sticky at the top of this thread...
First of all, engine wheelies aren't the best approach, especially with a bigger bike they can be very unpredictable. Clutch is usually the best method.
For learning stand ups it's usually a little easier to learn with your right foot on the front peg, and your left foot on the left passenger peg. It will fell kinda weird but just practice with it a ton. Pop the clutch in first a lot, you might even just try popping it a little bit, only enough to bring the front up an inch or so just to get used to the feeling of clutching it while standing. It feels very strange until you get used to it, then it feels sick.
Once you start popping it up make sure you stay on the gas, it's not going to come up unless you keep accelerating, unless you clutch straight to BP.
Good luck, Make sure you cover the rear brake all the time.
And always, ALWAYS wear you gear, sweat washes off, road rash doesn't.

Hey Got2josh, You sound like you know what your doing. I see you have a 01 Katana. Are you able to pimp that thing up or what? If so, let me know what you do because I have a 02 Katana 600 and I can't get it to do ****.

That's the problem right there
For real, you should still be able to clutch it in 2nd....practice practice practice and go up a few teeth in the rear.
-1 and +2 if you still can't.

Re: I can't pop this ****er up!
i just figurd id ask my question in here instead of starting another thread. i read the wheely post and just want to confirm that when you are clutching wheelies, and you want to cut off the throttle to then clutc, do you bring the clutch in ALL the way, or do u bump it? for the first method, it says to just bump the clutch while the throttle is still engaged. thanks for any help.
Re: I can't pop this ****er up!
I dont think weight is a huge issue. Clutch that thing up, powering it wont really get u anywhere. Easiest way to learn is to accelerate 'briskly' and blip the clutch (just pull it in and release it while on the gas still). Then from there adjust the amount of throttle your applying, and the length of time you pull the clutch in, so you can pop it up to where it feels comfortable.
Re: I can't pop this ****er up!
Damn, dat's a big *** dude, and that's only a 650 V-twin. As for all the hatin' muggs who says it's my weight, **** y'all. I know a dude 450 lbs. that pulls 100 mph wheelies on his '03 ZX-12R. The funny thing is when I was riding my friend's '03 GSX-R1000, I was able to pop it up in 2nd gear just by popping the throttle. Maybe I have the wrong bike. I was thinking about the sprocket since that what I've seen others do in order to make it easier to pop up but I don't want my speedo to be off by 17 mph either. I also am not a lard ***, just a big *** mugg all around. Anyways, thanks for all that have helped. Bitch *** muggs who talked **** about me can eat a sick dick.

Dude it ain't the bike. An sv 1000 has fvck loads a torque. You just need to learn to clutch it up. I got a budy who weighs about 350 and he got no problem clutchin up his ride. Can't power wheelie for fvck though.
Re: I can't pop this ****er up!
Nope, homeboy is 6'5" and we were heading towards Lincoln one night. Him and few bikers went around this corner on the interstate at like 150 mph. When we stopped I was talking about how I hate leaning so that's why I don't go that fast around corners. He was telling me about how it's no big deal and blah blah blah. I told him how I couldn't believe a guy his size was doing that ****. When we got back on the interstate we were going about 80. He shoots ahead of everybody else and then bam, up he came. When we stopped again, I asked him what gear he was in. He said he was in 3rd and going about 100. I about **** my pants.
As for XRR, I can talk **** cause I back **** up. I've been messing with ATV's and three wheelers since I was 3 years old. I can stunt the **** out of those, two wheels just makes me a bit nervous. So how about you cut me some slack. I've been riding for only a month and a half on a street legal bike. I ride every night, hell I've got 2900 miles on my bike already. Just chillin' tonight due to it only being 55 degrees outside right now. So learn when to keep quiet XRR.
As for the bike having **** loads of tq. I don't know about that. I've seen dyno results for my bike. It only has about 65 ft. at the wheels, a GSX-R1000 has like 83 at the wheels.

Re: I can't pop this ****er up!
Silthor seems to think he knows quite a bit for riding for only a month and a half.
i havnt been riding much longer but i dont go around braggin about my wheelies cause i aint **** compared to 80% of the people on here, been riding for almost 3 months (3000 miles) and im just now gettin the feel of the BP and riding wheelies for longer then 50 ft.
But back to the subject, its all about the clutch, learn where you need to "launch" your bike at, and how much throttle you need to give it. Practice makes perfect.

I did not brag about what damn thing except that I am alright at stoppies and I had the guts to do a seat stand, which I never plan to do again on this bike, it's too damn narrow. Anyways, thanks again to all who have gave me great advice. This is an awesome site, I'm very happy to be a part of it.
Re: I can't pop this ****er up!
Sithor this isn't omaharacing man. Be humble here and honest and you'll get all the help you need. But people aren't gonna put up with the internet tuff guy they will never meet... If you want some advice and would like to practice with some other stunters take a ride up to lincoln and we'll go ride.
