ol clutches, question...

My stock clutch was just taken out a lil over 20k miles, still worked fine, but i wanted to upgrade to a carbon fiber clutch. What kinda signs can I look for to see if my old plates are worth keepin as a spare? The friction plates seem to be just fine, but the metal plates seem a lil burnt is some area's....whats that mean? Is the clutch startin to burn up? On the friction plates, are the lil fiber squares suppose to be worn down? cause they arent worn down much at all it seems. anyway, TIA ~nick
