Try griptape if you don't want to smash your tank. Keep in mind that it will happen anyway from doing them. Find another tank to smash.

you can do it on a stock tank without putting anything on it. Lean back. If you lean forward your body wants to slide down, if you lean back it presses your weight against the tank. If you are new to spreaders your natural reaction is to lean forward so you can see better which makes you slide off the tank. Lean back and dont worry about watchin where you are going so much.

I used to slide off the tank last year, then I smashed my tank in more and now I don't.

I have no grip tape, and my tank isn't dented. I just lean back a little and brace my arms on my thighs, then lock my elbows.

leaning back is very important on all wheelies. newbies always lean foward cause they think they r gonna flip but watch the pros do sreaders, they cant even see the road.

Re: how do you do spreaders without sliding off the tank?

i tried the surf pads and i like them but then i tried skateboard deck tape and i wont use anything else. i rocked an undented tank for a while whilst doing alot of spreaders. the only time it became dented was when i beat the **** out of it.

Yea but with grip tape on the tank you cant do any spinderellas

Just dent that biotch in with a dead blow hammer start around the gas cap and work your way out just dont crease it.. :YEAH

Re: how do you do spreaders without sliding off the tank?

I couldn't bring myself to dent my tank either. Didn't need to anyway, I've done like 4 spreaders... Of course, then my bike got crashed by someone else (who IS paying the repair costs) and I got pissed off as I was getting home, so I kicked my bike as I passed it. Funny sh*t....I never would have done that before, but it looks like a crunchy piece now, so I was like ***** it, BOOT.
