Oil Pump Upgrade
Oil Pump Upgrade
On my 98 900 RR I'm replacing the head due to lack of oil on 12's, i was told I can upgrade to a better one like that on the 929, will it bolt right up do anyone know???? If not what will work so I dont have to keep replacing the head???
Re: Oil Pump Upgrade
You are going to have to get a parts manual or go and look at the computer at a bike shop to see if the parts are the same.
Othewr than that, I am not sure. Might want to sell the bike and just put that money toward a newer one... As the shops may try to bend you over with labor and parts costs..

The oil starvation problem is created more because of a shallow sump and from the location of the pick up in the sump. The upgrade with a higher capacity pump will not solve the problem unless it also relocates the pick up location whitch it may do ??????
Think straw in the bottom of a glass or cup filled with an inch of water. When you lean the cup towards you while the straw is on the top side of the lean the straw can lose contact with the water. At this point no matter how hard you suck you are not going to increase the amount of water going up the straw. Simplified example but same concept.
Same principle with your bike. You either need a deeper sump (cup) or move the pickup (straw).
