2nd gear wheelie question.....
2nd gear wheelie question.....
I can't for the life of me get my yzf600r up in 2nd. I can rev the hell out of it drop the clutch and the most I'll get is a little hop at most. What speed should I be trying to clutch it up in 2nd? The bike is -1 in the front if that makes a difference. It will come up no problem in 1st gear, but I think bringing her up in 2nd would be a little bit more friendly. Also, should I try a bounce/clutch combo? I appreciate any help fellas.
Re: 2nd gear wheelie question.....
I don't know, I can't clutch my 600 either.
I think you have to bounce and clutch at the same time or throttle off to get some compression braking going then slip the clutch at the same time.

Re: 2nd gear wheelie question.....
I am learning to pull my 6 up in 2nd. You need to get more
speed in 2nd then play your clutch with enough rpm and it should
come up.. Practice every bike is different..

Re: 2nd gear wheelie question.....
You dont need to bounce the bike in second to bring it up. I used to bring mine up in 2nd by going around 35-40mph then revving to 12k rpms(i think) and then letting off the clutch. Now, i'm geared -2 in front/stock rear. I dont look at my tach anymore so i dunno how high i rev to...I'm guessing 9-10k rpms now. I dont bounce at all cause i suck. All i do is clutch.
Re: 2nd gear wheelie question.....
Thanks for the replies guys. I went out and tried again today and I swear I'm redlining the bike and letting out the clutch and I still just get a lunge or a little hop at best. I'm guessing my timing may be off or else I'm just hopeless!
Re: 2nd gear wheelie question.....
How fast are you going when you say you red line?
If you are only going 15 to 20 you probabaly arent
going fast enough.......Practice different speeds....
Its just a bike see what the biaach has and let her
go...

Re: 2nd gear wheelie question.....
Make sure your not leaning over when you crack the throttle wheelies are about body position! I have an old beatup 97gsxr600 and if i lean over it won't come up, remember bikes were meant to keep both wheels on the ground and go around corners. Try keeping your arms almost fully extended when you clutch it that will keep your weight to the back of the bike. GOOD LUCK.
Re: 2nd gear wheelie question.....
I've got a 98 600R as well, and it took me a while to learn 2nd gear standups, but here's the advice I've got for you.....
Stock gearing(I assume):
Put your left foot back
Roll on throttle a bit
Bounce your weight on the bike compressing the suspension
tap clutch with one finger(just enough to disengage)
Give more throttle
let out clutch
I know this seems really choppy, but that's the best way I could explain it, just make sure that by the time the bike is rebounding, you're letting out on the clutch. That's the best explanation I've got.
A tooth down is easy to clutch up 2nd gear sitdowns, so...if you really want to get that thing into stunting, go a tooth down in the front, if you wanna go crazy, go 3 up in the back as well.
This pic below is the best body position i've had during a second gear standup, i rode it out for a quite a while.

I will try that stagger step set up like you suggested. I'm wondering if my suspension is too stiff as well, because I weigh 240lbs and it still feels like I'm not getting a lot of rebound. Awesome pic by the way, I can't wait till I can ride em like that.Oh yeah we have the same color scheme as well!!! (which I don't see often)
Re: 2nd gear wheelie question.....
No problem man, just keep working at it, it'll come to you. I don't think anyone with a 600R started off clutching up 2nd gear easily. It took me a full summer to get the bounce and timing of the clutch right.
You've got about 90 lbs. on me, so I dunno how your suspension is set up, but mine's still factory settings which works well for me. I noticed that I'm the only younger/lighter kid on a 600R, so that could explain why I can wheelie it alright where as the larger adults can't? 5'11, 152 lbs

Re: 2nd gear wheelie question.....
shift into second, scoot back on the seat, hammer the throttle and when u hit 5500-6000 just slip the clutch quickly. It's all in the timing, and no u don't need to bounce and clutch combo, I can bounce my F4 up in 3rd without the clutch and I am only -1/stock PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE
You'll get it bro
