question about standups

I would like to know if second gear stand ups are safer to do than first gear wheelies. I can pretty much get my 03 750 gixx up in first gear and ride it out for a little while but I dont like the way the bike feels when it comes up because first gear is too twitchy. It seems that doing second gear stand ups are safer to me cuz it takes more throttle to control them.
Please help me out.
Thanks.

I know what you mean, my brother has a GSXR750 and it'll jump right up in first (almost too touchy). He does all of his in 2nd but he's not trying to many stunts going at that speed either. 2nd should ride out though

so do you guys prefer to do second gear stand ups rather than first gear ones? I mean if you are learning?

second gear all the way, I only do 1st gear for short distance ****, you'll redline the **** outta your motor and run outta power if you try to go long distance on first, unless you're doing 20mph and are always at the Balance Point wich I doubt.

I was trying to clutch a second gear wheelie today, and all I can say is, thank god I have a 600 because the wheel only came off the ground about a foot and I tried 4 times.

After the 4th try, I realized that a cop was waiting to make a right turn about a quarter mile down the road, and if I would have done a wheelie I would have gotten a huge ticket.

I really need to find somewhere to practice without being bothered.
