learning 1st gear clutch up's...
learning 1st gear clutch up's...
So I have decided to learn slow ish on my 900rr.. I am geared 2 down 3 up.
I have gotten to the point where from an almost dead stop i clucth it and it comes up. The problem is sometimes its smooth others it jerks really hard and I let off the gas and the bike comes slammin down. i am covering the rear break the whole time...
Need advice as to make it a smoother lift on first...
Should I step on the break lightly before releasing the clutch?
once its up, the slightest throttle movement makes the bike really twitchy, what can i do to remedy that?
One more thing, I am doing them sitting down right now as they feel more comfortable than standing up at the moment..
Thanks

Moto, why arent you out with ROC and them cats? I know they'd teach you or help you with some ****..
But anyway, I've been told a few ways. Is all up to what your comfy with..
You can either ride the brake from a dead stop and clutch it up like that. Or tap the brake lightly and as it gets higher add more psi to the brake. Or you can wait til its up to the balance point and start to ride the brake then.
Either way, you'll have to play with the gas to compensate the brake psi.. Its all up to you, wish this weather would get better so I could get out and put this advice to use...

2) the throttle is 'twitchy' because the gearing is higher, therefore any throttle input is much more sensitive then 2nd gear.. only thing you can do is be smooth on throttle and pratice..
3) pratice what is comfortable and progress with time..

you need to use a lot smaller movements on the throttle, this is not a highway wheelie, smaller movements do alot when you are going slow, also now that you are using the brake you need to remeber that you are using the brake and the throttle, wish i could come uot there and ride with you but my arms are ****ed up from the crash a lakeland, if you need help man just hit me up ill try to explain it to you.

Re: learning 1st gear clutch up's...
the best advice I can give is... pratice... I took some time off and it messed with my throttle controll, but after some pratice it's back to normal
just remember first gear is going to be ultra-sensitive (twitchy), espically if your bike is geared..
thanks for the props tequilagb, I always like to help, and it feels good when people appreciate it. I'm considering writing a 'help me stunt FAQ' if/when i ever get time hehe hey I don't have money to contribute to the site, but I try to in other ways :D
