03 636 wont start! help!

the other day i was riding a wheelie on my 03 636 the bike felt like it was breaking up a little,, but kept running. i came down from the wheelie then immediately brought it back up dropped it back down in about 40ft coming to an intersection, took the corner and the bike just loss power. i reset the key, just turns over forever. i also noticed that when i turn the key it no longer makes that noise from the guage cluster as they activate, and the headlights dont come on. however, if i turn the key and turn the bike over, when i take my finger off the button, the headlights come on, and you can here the noise at the guage cluster. WEIRD if you ask me, one of the fuses was blown in the fuse box, we replaced it and it started. as soon as you give it gas the bike straight up dies. the fuel pump is good, we testes, and clearly it is since it started. i mean whats up with the headlights working after i hit the starter button and not before like always??? weird... i need this bike running mint by tonight and dont really know what to do at this point. when you turn it over the gas light flicks on and off... it has a half tank.. lol. if anyone has experienced this let me know... pinched wire? something unplugged...? thanks in advance

Re: 03 636 wont start! help!

the head light thing is normal it isnt supposed to turn on till after you hit the start button , can you here the fuel pump priming when you turn the key on ? and dont confuse the throttle bodies cycling with the fuel pump ..

the fuel pump will be just be steady buzz for a second or two and the throttle bodies will have a clearly audible studdering sound , the easiest way to tell the difference between the two is to have your kill switch in the off position so the fuel pump wont prime then turn the bike on and listen , do this a few times till you get used to what the throttle bodies sound like then turn the key off and turn the kill switch on and then turn the key on , if your pump is priming you will be able to hear the difference in the buzzing sounds ..

now this may all sound confusing but if you read carefully it's really pretty simple

throttle body noise isnt their when you turn key, guages just reset.my buddy got the bike to idle but if you give it gas it shuts off. i was ridin a wheelie seconds before this happened..my 636 isnt stunted out its a 100% cosmetically their, im thinking maybe tip over sensors f'ed? from wheelie? possibly? if so, do you unplug them or just bypass....but doesnt the fi light flash if that sensor is going off?

the problem with a 636 is you cant just bypass the t/o switch if it goes bad you can disable one thats working so the bike wont turn off if it's laying down but you need a working t/o switch to start with ..

do you know any one that would let you try theirs just see if the bike starts with a good t/o switch ?

the tipover switch turns the bike off when the bike is leaned over too far and when they go bad they also turn the bike off..

make sure it's plugged in that could do it too

lol ..it's a common problem and worth checking even if it's just to eliminate it as the cause
