Re: Welding 929 engine

im a welder myself and that cast aluminum doesnt weld very well, be ready with a whole lotta filler rod. and if it isnt perfectly i mean perfectly flat it will never seal up right, but yeah it can be done. i did it on my friends 01 929, it was worse than that you;ll be fine no worries.

The guy that did all my stuff was a machinist/welder and would even deck the mating surface if needed so it would be perfect.
I no the type rod is important, helps to be a like metal and if you realy want to do it right you preheat your metals.....i weld a little bit but dont have a tig to do it right......still kina a squid welder

Re: Welding 929 engine

you want a fairly soft filler, the bead will be small so just 1/16' softter rod will work. bolt up the cover and try to place the broke piece in there so it doesnt warp as you weld it.maybe tape it up from the inside. the block material puddles fast.. be easy on your petal and find a good consistane weave about an 1/8' past the crack on both side and fill on the crack you should get a good pretty bead and it'll never break again, good luck

i got another question, does anyone know how to take the flywheel off, i mean do i have to remove the screws on the inside with like a star shaped wrench or just the center bolt and use a flywheel tool?

Need flywheel puller tool...come on over an i'll let you use mine...
oh darn, to far away.
You can remove the nut,put two screwdrivers behind the flywheel with a lil pressure and have a buddy (tap) on the end of the crankshaft
(with the nut threaded on the end) to protect threads and this will sometimes work but be carfull not to break anything.

Re: Welding 929 engine

alot of the advanced auto parts or autozone will have flywheel pullers you can rent. its worth the 10bucks if its never been off it will be extremely difficult with out s puller youll prob slip a few times bust up your knuckels etc. they are really pressed on it took me an 1/2in impact and pb blaster over night to get one out.

Re: Welding 929 engine
