Pizza-Size Sprockets
Pizza-Size Sprockets
My bro and I are trying to learn slow wheelies on his 900RR. It's tough at this point for us to reliably pull it up to thebalance point while keeping the bike going slow. Right now we're geared 14-45 (-2 +2). Should we spring for a 66 tooth rear sprocket from sprocket specialties (giving us -2 +23)?
If that's not the answer, what technique should we practice in order to bring it up to the balance point reliably? Do you guys rev the engine a bit, then dump the clutch? Or is it better to rev the engine a bit and just feather the clutch out?
One more thing, how do you support yourself on the bike so that you don't automatically twist the throttle to the moon as the bike yanks on your arms?

cant wait to c the replies..wondering the same thing..trying standing up, auto wants to twist throttle, guess its just practice...but hopefully someone will have the answer on here
also i had 1 down 2 up....now i got 1 down 6 up..def a bit easier to go slow, but people were rocking circles on my bike with 1 down 2 up..and creeping the bike, so dont think u need gearing.....its just practice

i ride a 900 rr with stock gearing and have no problem getting it up
i just rev it alittle then dump the clutch but its got to be a smooth action and bounce the bike right up to the balance point and with stock gears can go real slow but i think gearing will help with circlesbut i havent got ther yet hope this helps

the only thing that pizza pan will do it make it easy to clutch the bike up at 2mph.
if you plan on doing rollon wheelies, and riding the bike anywhere there is traffic and cars, etc.. go with something less extreme.. first gear is going to be short as hell with that sprocket on. so, if you want to do super slow clutch wheelies and have them be easier.. yes, big sprocket. if you want the bike very rideable on the street, stock or near stock gearing. if you want some in between.. well, pick an in between. you can rock stock gearing for 12's anyway, if you work on it. and gearing is no substitute for technique..
just my .02 ...time to go work on endos...

You're fine with the gearing you have... I have the exact same gearing and have no problem. Just gotta clutch it and give it a little bounce from almost a dead stop......
Here's a video of my wreck, but you can see how I bring it up

Nags- find a 4 wheeler (pref sport) and you will pick up clutching technoque and rr brake control, then applie it to a streetbike
Damn Nags! I like your style of bringing it up... quiet, but sudden. You just giving it a quick squirt of gas as you do the bounce/let the clutch out at the same time? You just letting go of the clutch, or doing more of a slip?

hey mellen what is your bike geared at, Im feelin the slow rollin wheelies like that I just put on a 54 for my r1, I left the front stock, I like the sprocket so far, the first 3 gears is where I spend most of my time anyways so top speed sacrifice wasnt difficult
