havin issues with my new hohey setup

me and my buddy both purchased the hohey streetfighter setup for our f4i's... it works great but it seems after about 15-20 mins of riding the brakes start to fade and eventually there isnt any pressure at all... jus wonderin if anyone had the same problem

sounds like you are either getting brake fade [boiling the fluid] or you have a leak ...does the brake start working on it's own if you just let it cool off for a while or do you have to bleed it to get it working again ?

Re: havin issues with my new hohey setup

Bleed it again and if it still happens run all the old fluid out and run motul RBF600 Brake fluid.
My brake fluid kept boiling causing it to have brake fade. Ran this brake fluid and haven't had a problem since. Boiling point is like 600 degrees or something like that.
If no bike shop in town has it, you can get it from HAI.

yup definitely sounds like brake fade, remember your new setup has more power so you dont need to use the brake as hard as you used to.

I know the first day I rode with the hohey 4 piston setup, I got brake fade within a few minutes, had to get used to all that power lol

Re: havin issues with my new hohey setup

remember once you boil the fluid once that lowers the boiling temp for next time , change the fluid and make sure nothing is hanging up and causing the pads to drag ...

and remember there is a full line on your reservoir for a reason , over filling it can cause the brakes to drag when the fluid gets hot ....

Yeah well not everyone has brake control locked, so some people are still cooking rotors and brake fluid....Running RBF instead of some shitty DOT 4 can be the difference between someone loosing the rear brake and looping out or not. For $10 a bottle that will do 3 or more bikes, Id rather have fluid that is impossible to cook....

I read on here that AC lost his rear brake and that caused him serious injury, not saying that it was because of shitty fluid...But just image it was because of cooked fluid, that RBF probably wouldnt seem too expensive and overkill then would it....

so your the reason he had to retire ?....if he used rbf 600 he would still be riding today ...

disclaimer - im assuming he had brake fade when he crashed

Remember to trim your pads too...so there's no unnecessary rubbing.

Re: havin issues with my new hohey setup

The hohey setup is the biggest piston(s) you can get for a rear caliper. It takes so little pressure you dont even need a good master.

****, you have to TRY to boil the fluid with a 4 piston rear. I would guess the culprit in this problem is a realy high idle.

Im sure there are tons of good fluids out there (Ive never used abs so I cant comment on that) I just know RBF has the highest boiling point out of all the fluids the local shops stock. So I buy it for piece of mind, $10 instead of $5 aint no big deal for me....

Its been like 2-3 years since I was cooking rotors and boiling fluid, but my first year I did boil DOT 4, and loose my rear brake completely...Like OMR said if you let it cool down it comes back, but boils at a lower and lower temp each time it boils...Untill eventually its no better then water.....

Re: havin issues with my new hohey setup

if you boil brake fluid with a hohey 4 piston you do not need a HB

Re: havin issues with my new hohey setup

its actually pretty easy to boil the fluid on the 4 piston set up. sounds like alot of throttle combined with a lot of brake . rider error

Re: havin issues with my new hohey setup

your problem doesnt have anything to do with your hohey setup!!! you need to use some Valvoline Syntech breakfluid you can get at advanced auto parts its less than $6 for a big bottle and i havent had any problem
