Throttle Conversion

Throttle Conversion
Hello,
I have a Yamaha V-Star 650 cruiser and would like to convert the grip throttle to a thumb throttle. This change is from a comfort perspective.
Is this possible?
If it is, what parts would I need? Would there be any performance issues?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: Throttle Conversion
most likely you are going to need custom throttle cable, and the entire thumb throttle assembly (off of a fourwheeler, or such). theres also aftermarket companies that make entire thumb throttle assemblies.
The thing your going to run into, is that your V-star (if its like any other streetbike) has 2 throttle cables (push-pull design),...when u open the throttle, a cable pulls the butterflies open...then when u shut it, the other cable forces them shut, to assist the springs..... On an atv, there is only one, and the spring in the carbs do all the work on returning them to idle.
I've ran a few sportbikes over the years with only the pull-cable for the throttle, and ran into zero issues. but its still something to think about.
