I have a customers bike that will only run while holding the start button. Cant figure this one out. I tried another pod, didnt fix it..replaced the start relays in the tail harness didnt fix it. I am completly puzzeled with this one, i am now assuming the ecu may have issues. Has anyone encountered this problem, and what was the solution? thanks.

 

no but check the starter bushings and the kill switch might be gounding out also. sounds light it would have to be those things as long as you are not blowing main fuses.

 

voltage regulator? scan the fi light and see what code comes up may be bad ign pulse generator. Check for resistance on the wires at the engine shut off relay individually and unhooked from aything. Does the fuel pump turn on with ign?

 

i finally got it..... cant belive what it was!! after everything, even hooked another computer up. checked continuity on almost everything. this guy went a couple days ago and got some car headlight bulbs.. i was siiting there and was like why the **** are there no headlights!! then i remembered f4is need the headlights. changed the bulbs and worked. I waisted at least 4 hours of my life!

that doesnt seem right tho cause my headlight and turn harnesses r completely off the bike and it runs fine after the clutch switch mod and tip sensor! But hey good deal! i would never had thought that!

 

That is why the bike wont run do not ask me why but you need almost all of that wireing to run the bike my buddies bike will do the same thing when we tried to take some of that extra **** out.

 

what year bike? i heard something bout the ecu measuring resistance in the headlight not sure what year that was tho

 

i think thats what it was, the wattage was completly wrong on these bulds he got..

 

alright guys sorry for the squid question but you guys seem smart with this stuff... i just ordered a SF headlight from HAI... will there be any problems hooking it up? or is there some special way i should do it so this same problem doesn't happen? my F4i is 01.

 

i did find that if u street fighter ur bike and tried to wire a after market light such as fog lights to the headlight harness the amperage is too much for the stock relay and wiring. so i just ran a wire straight off the ign with a fuse to the fog light. as long as its a h4 55watt bulb ull be fine. 80- 100 will melt the plug and wires

 

this light is designed for motorcycle, so i think it might be fine to run it off the headlight harness?!?! idk... or could i just run it from the battery with a toggle switch and an in-line fuse or something?

 

this ign switch in front so it turns on with key! try just using stoc plug, should be fine tho. if it fails just run a wire with fuse of course to the ign wire under key switch. ill post the wire color later

I'd know, I havne't had any one my bike in about 2 weeks....



Sounds like there was a short or something, and by hooking up the headlights, you fixed the short..

I'd check the wire harness over though.. AS that short can come back at any time when he hits a bump or does a wheelie

 

yeah i was wrong, i took those blue bulbs that he had bought out, they were 70watt blue street glow, i just got factory bulbs for it today. when i put those back in problem repeats. i take out the left bulb and runs, but right side will not shine. bulbs are good, and the harness to the bulb has good ground and good hot.... so now what.?.... changed the high low relay also, no fix..

 

If its getting power to the harness.. then it just has to be coroded or somthing, not making contact with the bulb

remember only 1 headlight is on with low beam, both come on with high beam

 

just got it. burned the ground out in the harness..
