Re: 636 rear wheel swap

awesome info johnny!

glad i got a 06 swing to go with my new wheels! way less hassle especially for changing tires etc!

while we are picking johnny's brain... do you happen to have pics/info of what exactly is the easiest way to put the 06 swing on the 03-04 frame? thanks in advance!

No pics but it is very simple, all you have to do it take out the rubber seal on the right side of the 05 swingarm and swap it for the one from the 03/04....That will allow you to use the threaded adjuster nut from 03/04 swingarm, so swap the seal use the 03/04 adjsuter nut and piviot shaft....Bolts right up....

YOU MUST ALSO REMEBER! That if your using the 05+ swingarm then you need to make sure the cush drive spacer on the left side must also be 05+....The cush itself is the same but those spacers are difernt widths, so if you use the 03/04 spacer with a 05+ swingarm your chain will be out of alignment...And vise versa

Then comes the shock! If you use the 03/04 stock and linkages then nothing needs to be done, however if you want to use the 03/04 knuckle with the 05 shock you need to swap the bottom(where the bottom shock mount bolt goes) 2 seals and bushing from the 05 knuckle into the 03/04 linkage....Because the 05 shock eyelet on the bottom is a little narrower, so for it to fit those need to be swapped.....The knuckle and its roller bearings are the same but the 2 seals and bushing are differnt widths...If you have the 05 knuckle then it will all bolt right up.....Also do not use the 05 upper mount (the steel part that mounts the shock to the frame, 05 is dark colour and 03/04 is silver, use the 03/04 on the 03/04 frame no matter what shock you use)

Its kinda confusing to explain but if you have any specific questions, ask away....

Re: 636 rear wheel swap

Ok snapped some pics cause I realize my explantaion is pretty hard to understand without them

Ok so here is the right side of the 05 Swingarm with the seal removed, pry out that seals from both swingarms and press the 03/04 seal into the 05 swingarm. This allows you to use the 03/04 adjuster nut and pivot shaft(silver piece with threads on inside and square shape one side, round on the other)...

This is the cush drive spacer, 03/04 is a silver colour 05 is titanium coloured....Make sure you use the 05 or your chain will be out of alignemet with the front sprocket...And the wheel wont fit...

Here is the bottom shock mount with a 05 shock, I left the 03/04 knuckle because I didnt feel like unbolting it. I just took out the seals on each side and the bushing and swapped them over.....

And heres the 05 shock mounted to the 03/04 shock/frame mount....The 03/04 mount is sliver in colour and the 05 is a dark colour....

Its custom, I made it out of a Akro slip-on for a 06-07 GSXR 6/750......I cut the tubing and my buddy welded it for me....

only 05-08 will fit, the older 03/04 rims are too wide in the middle and wont fit....

Stock 03/04 headers, everything after that is custom....I tried to use the 05/06 header at first but it does not fit the 03/04 motor. The oil filter hits the header and it does not fit...

Why would you think that? The spacer and cush drive on the left is not changed at all, they remain in the exact same location....All your doing it taking up the 13mm(13mm difference in hub width) space and moving the caliper 13mm to the left to match.....

You have to realize that the 05/06 wheel is narrower in the hub by 13mm, so the right side is pushed in 13mm from the 03/04.....Your not moving the wheel to the left your just taking up the space from the 13mm differnce in width on the right side....The rotor is also 13mm to the left from the stock 03/04 rotor.....

If you do what Ive done, your wheel is dead centre and your chain is perfectly aligned...

Re: 636 rear wheel swap

well i would think if the wheel is 13 mm different it would be 6.5 on each side ...
