04 gsxr regulator hot when bike is off
04 gsxr regulator hot when bike is off
so i was smashing down 285 when my bike died. 22k miles and no issues ever until now. complete electrical failure. after dialing #road, parking my *** on the concrete divider, waiting on a tow for 3 hours like a dumbass, telling the firefighters and ambulance paramedics i'm "ok" after they tore *** cause someone callin in a motorcycle wreck, i got the bike back to the garage. i did get to watch the sunset tho it was very nice. this is what i found.
popped the 30a fuse at the starter relay after immediately replacing it. so i grab the meter and prepare to do work.
battery is ok..
generator coil resistance checked out fine..
i run a few switches so i checked all the electrical for botched work. didnt see any issues but i did rewrap some worn tape from some old solder jobs.
lastly i diode tested the regulator. my meter didnt register anything. thought for a second it was my pos harbor freight meter so i plugged the regulator back in. runs hot with the bike OFF however it doesnt pop any fuse. its fucked right?
thanks

Re: 04 gsxr regulator hot when bike is off
right, i understand.. but when the bike is off and no current is being generated why is the rectifier running hot? the bike has been off for 24 hours and the rectifier has been unplugged for at least 12. but when i plug it back in its hot within minutes w/o starting the bike. and its not hardwired. the harness is clean and mint. im thinking a short within the rectifier but id like a second opinion?
