Redoing my forks... tip please
Redoing my forks... tip please
Ive started stunting this summer and when i was learning 1st gear stuff and idle i was mousetrapping pretty bad and blew my fork seals. I wasnt going to replace them until i knew how to consistently ride ******(sounded bad). Well im confident now sow im gonna replace the seals and i was wondering if there are any tips or setup options that work better with stunting in particular stoppies. I could roll them about a measly 50-75 feet with blown seals and oil on the brake pads w/o a damper and shitty conventinal(non-inverted) forks. Im sure i could get longer. I am going to sink the forks down about a 1/16 to and 1/8 inch down into the triple ala Matt Gorka. Should i put thicker oil in the forks? are springs worth buying? Just al little help. Bike is a 00 kaw 6r.
thanks
thanks

Im not sure about setting em up for stoppies or anything but if you need help on changing forks seals and fluid just ask. I did some two weeks ago on a gsxr. Amazing how easy some of these jobs are after you've done them a few times.
Re: Redoing my forks... tip please
I dont think ill need any help, im mechanically minded. Ive built engines for cars that lasted so fork arent really anything. but thanks for the reply!

Thats the kinda thing i needed. Little tips that help a bunch. Will do!
Re: Redoing my forks... tip please
plastic bag= I sometimes use the bag the seals come in, slide tha bag over the top of the tube so no chance of the sharp edge of the top tube catching the seal when sliding it on, a little grease over the bag helps alot as well.
i also use electrical tape.

Ride as little as possible with bad seals. If there isn't any oil in the forks you will eventually damage something.
Stock front springs on that bike would be fine if you weigh no more than 150lbs or so. If you go on racetech.com we have stock specs on most bikes posted.
If you put in less oil than recommended your forks will bottom more easily. Don't think of it as less oil, think of it as a bigger air space in the fork. As the front end compresses, so does the air pocket. If the air pocket is bigger it will compress more easily.
If you want to see what it feels like, build the forks with a little less oil than stock and go ride. Then add enough to get to the stock oil level and go ride again. Then go a little more. Adjust by 5 or 10mm at a time.
Write down the changes you make and see what feel you like.

.
never add more than factory recomends, this is how you blow the seals, air sqeezes the fluid under fork compression. Also you won't bottom out if you use a stiffer fork oil...... yea I've got a couple of certifications in racetech suspension as well.
