Battery?

I went to start my bike up today and got nothing. I put it on the charger and after a charge, the bike started up. I turned it off and then started it up again without charging. I rode for about 15 minutes and then went home and reset my clock. When I went to start it up again, DEAD. I'm thinking maybe it's a battery that I need but I can't figure out why it wouldn't start after me riding it?????? Anyone have any advice before I go out and try and new battery? By the way, the bike is a 2001 erion.

Re: Battery?

how many miles are on the bike?? reason maybe a bad stator. i had the same thing go wrong with my 929 about a year ago. try replacing the battery and if that does nothing then probably a bad stator

Re: Battery?

Fully charge your battery again, then check the voltage with a meter your battery fully charged should read 12.8-13.2 volts.Connect the terminals again and start the bike and let it idle.Turn your headlight to high beam.Hook the meter up to the terminals again and bring the engine rpm's up to 5,000 the meter should read between 13.5 and15.5 volts,If not then you have a charging problem.

Re: Battery?

I just charged the battery and I got 12.8v. Tomorow I'll check after starting the bike etc. If I don't get the proper voltage (charging problem), what do I do next? Stator?

Re: Battery?

yeah .... if not the battery then stator. Also, could be the voltage regulator/recifier (black box bolted on the left side of subframe under the tail plastic)

Re: Battery?

I started the bike, let it run for a while and got a reading of 14.5v. I cut it off for a while and then it started up again with the same reading. I'll check it again in a few hours.

Re: Battery?

Turn off the clock. It is drawing too much power and draining your battery.

Re: Battery?

I'm almost sure it's the battery. The bike starts all day (it's pretty warm out here in NY) and I have the proper voltage on the battery. However, when I turn the ignition on without starting the bike, I can watch the voltage drop. I don't think the battery is holding charge well.
