Havin fuel problems w/ a 900RR

The problem I am having is keeping fuel to the carbs while it's up in the 12 position. The damn thing only stays running for about 2 seconds. I have the whole 12 oclock and back thing down, but can't get do anything while i'm up cause it just dies out. Any suggestions?

maybe try tilting the carbs forward slightly. never tried it personally but i have heard it will work. good luck.

thanks, i'll give it a shot. I just want to be able to do an ape hanger with out it dyin on me. I was also told to take a mechanical fuel pump and hook it up in line so that it would push and pull the fuel. that kinda makes sense because it is gravity fed know.

that wont make any difference, f3s have a mechanical fuel pump, and they die out also. the problem is your floats. if you tilt the carbs a little, that might clear up the problem.

you might also try turning up your idle. dont know if it will work for a bike, but when my raptor hits 12, it likes to die. the only way to keep it from dieing is to rev the engine. maybe it will work for bikes too, but i dont know for sure.

Re: Havin fuel problems w/ a 900RR

I've got a 98 motor in my 900rr, and run a fuel pump with an adjustable pressure regulator. when I'm doing 12's I turn the reg. all the way down, it works like a champ (bought it at autozone for $10). I find it hard to believe as inflexible as the carb boots are on those motors that the carbs could be tilted enough to make a difference.

The reason this works is that at 12, your floats are no longer positioned to close off the fuel coming into the fuel bowl and your flooding out. With the reg. turned down you get enough in to continue running, but not so much you flood out.

Thanks, i will give it a shot. That should help i hope. i tried turning the idle up to compensate for the massive amount of fuel but it wasn't working.

most guys that ride RR's (or any carbed bike for that matter) have come to the realization that they stall on the bar, period, and have kearned to live with it. It you want to do lots of bar tricks, you could try the fule regulator idea, but if that doesn't work, sell it and just get a FI bike, FI bikes are easier to ride too!

I have a 98 900rr as well. I was told to adjust the floats in the carbs, it worked like a champ, also make sure your gas tank is full. Because if mine is anywhere near 1/4 full I would say, it doesnt even want to run when doing 12s. My bike runs the best when it has a full tank of gas, which would be a half tank because of how bad the tank is smashed in.
