Undented Tanks
Alright this post goes to the people out there that are doing spreaders and highchairs without denting there tanks.
I know some people use surf pads or skateboard grip tape on there tanks rather than denting them. How are the results with thoughs? After my last incident in denting my tank went down the shiat hole, Denting another tank just seams completely stupid to me cause i cant afford another f up.
So im goin to give the Surfboard pads a try.
*update* My tank isnt repairable because something also broke off the back of the inside piece that also broke from the tank. That piece isnt even accesable and it would rattle against the inside of the tank and drive me insane if left that way. And im very pissed at myself for screwin up the minty tank. So what have we learnd ladies and gents?
Dont dent your minty tank in if you have never attempted to dent a tank befor.

Re: Undented Tanks
because one, your higher up and you have to reach down more to the clip ons,i rocked my tank non dented for a long time with only grip tape, when i dented it i started doing better spreaders and felt comfortable to do highchair tricks...

Re: Undented Tanks
I admit that the dented tank is more comfortable to sit in (sat in mine a few diff times) but it also makes my hips pop outa socket because of the ridge around the edge (in spreader position) and it ****in hurts like hell. I think the F2/F3 tank might be a pretty hard tank to dent in because the gas cap sits up ontop of a "plateu" (think thats the right spelling) I was seriously beating on the top of that gas cap with a phone book and hammer for about 20 min straight without any results....

Re: Undented Tanks
that's cuz the phonebook was takin too much of the impact... i have one f4i dented tank, with griptape, and my new f4i doesn't really have either, lil tiny pieces of griptape..but yeah it feels way diff, u sit higher up, so i have to reach down more..and i almost looped a spreader last sunday cuz i was slippin off but was like **** it i'll hang on with my arms, and kinda rolled the throttle a lil much,,, but i feel your pain, i don't really wanna dent this one, cuz i hate when the paint chips, but we'll see

Re: Undented Tanks
nah dude i was using a regular hammer ontop of the phone book and litterally winding up. After that i busted out the 5 lbs hammer and it still didnt do **** but break out the middle of the tank.
I also tried the "beat down one side of the cap then the other side then the other side and so on" befor i started beating on the very top of it dead center... it was freakin stubborn till it broke... **** then everything dented in like cake.

i'm tellin u...get a 12 pack..drink her down, then jump on it, makes good ones, then when u'r too hung over to go to school or work the next day,, use a rubber mallet to finish it nicely..i was gonna post a pic of mine, but it involves me cropping it, and i'm too lazy

Re: Undented Tanks
Oh yea i will be able to hear it lol, i can hear a few diff little rattles infront of me on the bike and its annoying as hell.
For the parts i was beating with a normal hammer a ruber hammer wouldnt have done much because im tellin you that little ridge that the gas cap sits up on makes it harder then hell. Even with a regular hammer and some pretty hard blows to the sides of the ridge (forcing it inward) it had little to no affect on it. The regular hammer really didnt cause many problems for me. Cause the dent job on my tank looks just about as good if not better than the one on yours. Its just that the cap mount broke off the tank.

Re: Undented Tanks
yeah i know i shouldnt have used one but its all i had at the time and was the time i had ***** to actually use it.
Phonebook method works awesome though
BACK ON TOPIC!!!!
Im goin to use a surf pad that covers pretty much the intire top of my tank and just cuttin out the hole for the gas cap. If the surf pad works and i can rock HC's and Spreaders with no slipping issues then i dont plan to ever dent my tank (minty tanks just look better) but the first time i slip off that ***** is goin to get a stompin.
Not to mention the g/f is torked that i messed up my gas tank and wanna do it to the next one i get too.

Re: Undented Tanks
honstly dude i dont see why you dont just dent it,no tank with grip tape or surf **** on it is gonna look "minty",all its going to do is make tank tricks a lot harder on yourself..but learn for yourself.
